30cc and 60cc airframes

I had two 30cc airplanes and then I upgraded to a 50. The difference in flight characteristics is astronomical. I'm getting a 20cc here pretty quick, and then after that I'm going to focus on getting a new 30cc. I was thinking the extra 330 from peakmodels, in the pretty orange scheme. But still, 50cc flies waaaayyyyyyyy better than 30, IMO. You wouldn't regret it in the least.

How long did you fly the 30cc size before you moved up to a 50-60cc size? Did it make the transition to the 50 size much easier?

I flew my 30cc for about a season. I was tired of my little DLE 30 running like crap, so I decided I needed to move up, because the DLE 55s are known to run ridiculously well. About the time I was looking into getting that size plane, my buddy offered me a great deal on a plane. He sold me an airplane that had been flown maybe 20 times, and had maybe a gallon or two through the motor for $550. The good price made the transition very easy. Yes, I feel like my experience with a 30 helped out a lot. With 30s your reaction time has to be rather quick, and with a 50, things happen so much slower. I absolutely love mine and have no regrets of getting a plane this size. Just keep this in mind -- the bigger they are, the better they fly.

Transportation isn't a problem either. 50cc flies really well and are relatively easy to transport. They are definitely the economy size plane if you want something that flies well.

Great feedback 3dcarter. I think right now what's holding me back going right to a 60cc size plane is that I don't have a season flying a 30cc size plane under my belt yet. To be honest I've only flown my 74" Edge a few times but have been flying for about 4yrs. Mostly electrics with the largest wing span being a 48" Edge. Probably would be fine going right to a 30% size plane but I think the experience I would get on the 30cc size plane would be a valuable setp transitionning to a 30% size plane.

I made the jump from my first 30cc size (74" Edge) to my first gasser (89" Slick) after 4 months with the Edge.

Bigger flies better :)

Snowdog muss be dreaming of green things to come in spring LOL.
The EDGE I found NIB is the blue / silver / white scheme. Found a great deal on the airframe, and NIB DA60. I bought a Yak from a fellow club member after he crashed it. The plane had Hitec HS-7954SH servo's and a great running DLE55. Sold all of it except the servo's. After selling off what I didn't want to fund the new plane, I have less than $1,000.00 in all of the major components. I can't wait till spring arrives and Snowdog and I can maiden this beauty. I would go with the 30% plane. A great, fun plane to build.

That's another concern of mine. I'm affraid that if I spend the money on a 40cc twin for the 74" Edge and get it back in the air I will regret it and wish I just went straight to the 60cc.

What engine mount are you using for the DA60? Does that give you the proper spinner clearance? Love that plane and scheme.

My buddy Patrick has this 30% Edge. Don't get the Green scheme as it is hard to see. He is going to recover the bottom of the wing after trying other things all season.

His is 17lbs with a EME-60 and it flies very well. On the same day I got to fly ghoffman 's 91 Extra, my EF 88" Edge (breaking in new engine so I was bored), and his 87" Edge. Now the 91 is not setup the way I like it (too nose heavy), but I had the absolute most fun with the Pilot. It tracks super well and fit's my personal style. It does not have the extreme agility of the 74 Edge, but from your earlier description of your flying goals, I think you will like the pilot more as it tracks so well and will fly closer to the Compy.

hmmm...you think the green scheme is too hard to see, huh? I've been eyeing the 30% Pilot Extra in the green scheme...I would think from the bright colors that it would be very easy to see?

What is he planning to change on the bottom?
