91" SkyWing ARS 300 Assembly Thread

Hello folks, new member here (joined today).
Congrats on the great and detailed build thread, Nick.
I have just ordered one of these planes, tiger scheme, should be here next week. I'll be running it electric on 14S 5000mAh with a GA6000 rewound to 164kV and a electric 23x12 prop.
I spoke with a friend and competition level pilot and he told me Skywing planes tend to fly faster and not do the low stuff as well as EF due to the smaller wing area and thinner airfoil, he does like the plane though, just not his flying style. What is the opinion of ARS owners?
Ronaldo

Thanks!:welcome: I don’t have enough time on the airframe to say it’s faster or even to compare to EF planes in this this size. The plane slows down great in high alpha, and feels rock solid. It never feels like it’s going to fall out of the sky. Landings felt a little faster but that may have been because of my CG.

After 18 endless days it finally arrived. Very impressed with quality but my first perception was that the kit was a bit heavy. As I do with all my builds I took the time to weight the parts for reference and future comparisons.

It is indeed heavier than my Corvus 91" except for the wings (which are smaller too). Main difference is on the fuse, the rest is quite close.
Corvus 60cc/ ARS300 91"
Fuse with canopy: 1781g / 2352g
Wings: 1322g/ 1283g
Cowling: 314g/ 321g
Stabs/ elev: 292g/ 334g

Total difference in these parts only=581g

Interesting, did you include the wing/tail mounting hardware with the goldwing? As it's built into the frame with the SW. Regardless, it's about a pound heavier by your comparison. The fuel tank could be lighter too, it's pretty robust. Thanks for sharing!

Hello Nick, no I didn't include it, thanks for pointing out. Unfortunately, I did not weight the complete Corvus hardware or we could do the math now. I'm including a few more items from the Corvus on post #144 for comparison.
I just noticed I can't edit older posts so I'm including the pictures here.
The control surfaces are larger on the Corvus, except for the elevators which in the ARS extend all the way to the root as the stab is placed forward which eliminates the need to cut a chamfer to allow rudder deflection.
I wish I had weighted my old Fly Model Extra 330SC 91" for comparison too.

Hey guys. First of all, AKNick, great build thread! I recently purchased the Skywing 91" Edge (and a GP-76) so reading this thread was very informative for me.
I haven't done a build thread in a while, and the airframes are similar, so I wasn't sure if there was any interest, so I'm asking...is there any interest in me doing a build thread on the Skywing 91" Edge? I figured this would be a good place to ask that question.
