    EF 48" Laser EXP

So if anyone wants to turn their laser from a superb all-rounder into a rabid foaming at the mouth beast.. you could bolt a Motrolfly DM-3615 to the nose: Seriously though. the 3615 may seem like extreme overkill but it actually works fine in the Laser. The lightweight version of the motor...

    BEC Recommendations?

I cant recommend the Castle Creations 10A Peak BEC highly enough. I've got a few of them and they are rock solid. They also have output voltage adjustable over a very wide range. Only downside is that you need a CC USB link wire to program them (only an issue if you dont already have one)...

Yippee! Charging The Lithium Polymer Beast

The SolidHobby PSU looks like a really well done conversion, the best I've seen in fact. Certainly more nicely finished off than my home brew job. I'd certainly run away from any of the conversions you might see that don't have the DC isolation mod done (which is a fiddly little job).

Yippee! Charging The Lithium Polymer Beast

I guess it makes a lot more sense if you have a flying club owned generator permanently stored at your field, along with somewhere secure to store it etc.

Yippee! Charging The Lithium Polymer Beast

I'm really not sure i follow the logic of this approach? Option 1 - large scale e-power plane with gas generator powered field charger: You take some gas and put it in a smelly, noisy, expensive, temperamental, heavy and cumbersome gas engine generator. You use the generator to charge a...

Yippee! Charging The Lithium Polymer Beast

Yep, well spotted!.. corrected The limit on Watts is often not made clear on many chargers. They make claims of being able to charge as 6A, 10A, 20A or whatever, but very often they can only actually achieve that if they are charging a 2s liPo. Anything higher cell count and they can no...

Yippee! Charging The Lithium Polymer Beast

Gary, I'm not sure I recommended one? As I said I've not used one of the high power HK chargers, I decided to spend the money and get an icharger, and if you can afford it that is what i would recommend. But not everyone has the money to do that. I do have one of the cheapo Turnigy Accucell...

Yippee! Charging The Lithium Polymer Beast

Daren, Regardless of how you power it the AC 680 is limited to a maximum 6A current or 80W power. When you charge a 6s battery the power limit will really slow you down a lot. 80W on a 6s battery means charge current will be down around 3A, so you will take upward of an hour to charge a single...

Yippee! Charging The Lithium Polymer Beast

That power supply is a very nice piece of work. I'm running basically the same HP DPS-600PB server power supply hardware but mine is a home brewed conversion. I'm using it to power an icharger 3010b which will push 30 amps into my batteries. Unless you are flying with MASSIVE batteries a...

    Programmable Mixes

Usually for KE you have two mixes programmed: Rudder to elevator - This corrects for the model pulling toward the canopy or tucking toward the landing gear. Rudder to aileron - This corrects for the model trying to roll out of KE You need to set up each one separately and no, you...

Fly Low In "Middle East" --Joe flies for the Prince of Dubai"

The drop zone looks like a great flying site though quite a few obstacles to dodge around... Try not to have any mid air's with skydivers:eek:

    Programmable Mixes

I guess throttle to rudder mix could be looked on as addressing a type of coupling.. throttle to yaw coupling? Different flight modes sounds too complicated for me! I struggle enough just moving two sticks and occasionally flicking a rate switch:o

    Programmable Mixes

Not sure if it was better.. just longer:) If only I could translate the theory into practice:rolleyes:

    Programmable Mixes

Programming mixes is part of the process of trimming a plane (at least for those who use mixes). The mixes themselves are used to counteract 'coupling' that is inherant in just about every airframe. You can put mixes on switches if you want but for me there is no point. I just leave them 'on'...

40" EPP Edge 540 Building, Flying, and Questions

I've yet to find a 3D plane fromm one of the well known manufacturers that used any down-thrust, or at least any that uses enough to be visually detectable, but they all have some right-thrust. I'd say to set the down-thrust to zero and put in about 3 degrees right. You can always adjust from...

    EF 48" Laser EXP

Sorry to see your new laser has took a hit, frustrating way for it to happen too. Looks like it will fix up just fine. if it were me I might be tempted to strip the covering to do the repairs. Being all red the fus on the laser would be a breeze to re-cover. If you have the bust pieces of ply...

Discussion What's a good first balsa plane?

Of the planes I have I'd recommend the Extreme Flight 48" Edge EXP.. It's super stable post stall but doesn't give up anything in performance or specification to any other plane of similar size. I challenge you not to buy one after watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxuUp6x3J2o

Discussion Wow, a plane can do that?

Not forgetting "how high".....the joys of flying in public spaces:D I seriously thought about printing a bunch of 'FAQ' handout sheets.

Careful! Should you seal your hinges?

Yeah, I've got all mine sealed because it just seems to be 'the recommended thing to do' but I haven't noticed any difference (including on my Laser). No denying the difference it seemed to make to your Laser though.. which is kind of puzzling:confused:
