MAN!! It has been way too hot down here in Augusta to be out on the garage, I don’t have much of air flow, even at 8pm it still 100f. Ok enough belly aching.
So I’ve completed setting the incidence on the stabs and the wings. It took me a while to do this as I was being very cautious, checking and rechecking.
First step was to make sure the table was flat and level in the roll and pitch. I first set the incidence on the stabs, once I was happy with the meter I clamped it in place and used a pencil drill to locate the front screw location, I used a servo screw to hold it in place while marking the rear one. You will see in the pictures where I used my Dremel to remove the balsa away so that I could replace it with a light ply, the reason behind it is so that the root end cap does not dig in to the balsa. It creates two problems, one, after many times of on and off you will start to see the ear of the cap digging in, creating the second issue, after a while the cap will start to pull away from the stab. I also added a hard point right below the stab tube.

I like that idea on the fuselage to prevent crushing the balsa...wish I had thought of that beforehand, lol. What did you set your wing and stab incidence to? Down thrust on the motor?

Thanks. We had a great time.
I built the plane at zero incidence and thrust, but added about 3/4 degree of down thrust and drooped the ailerons slightly and re-trimmed. I like the way it flies better now so would probably add 1/2 degree of positive to the wing and maybe 1/4 to the stab If I had it to do over. It was pulling to the canopy on up lines and the adjustments seemed to help.

AND I’m back, I had all last week off as my wife was on a mission trip to Jamaica and I had to stay home with my awesome kids. Watched lots of movies and drank a bunch of coke but please don’t tell my wife.

I have a bunch of pictures to load up. OK so after setting the incidence on the wing and the stabs it was time to cut out the fin and start working on the rudder. As with all other threads I’ve seen, it’s a matter of perfect cuts some sanding and two hours of measuring before gluing it in place. Now, before all this takes place, I had to glue on the Fins LE and shape it following the same method as the stabs. Also the TE was glued on, for this you have to laminate two pieces of 3/8 balsa.
I drilled the hinge holes prior to gluing them to the fin and rudder.
Prior to gluing the fin, I made sure to be dead center so I made some marks on the fuse for reference. I used Hysol E-60 HP to glue the fin the fuse; this gave me plenty of time to check it while it was curing.

Next was to cut off the extra balsa and sand it flush against the sheeting, mark the center linens which was very easy to do since I already had the hinge locations, more cutting and sanding and WOOOHOOO my first moving surface.

Hey Naughty, I believe is pilots preference. I'm actually thinking of adding it back on. It will give it a better scale look. How about a vote guys.
leave it as it is or added.
 
I'm curious if it affects flight characteristics at all, like coupling, servo load and such. It does make me think Ultimate when I see it though.
