71" AJ Slick Building, Flying, and Questions

It is also taking a bit to get use to the amount of money that is flying around in the air so I tend to fly higher then with my smaller planes too.
That's the hard part for me...even after several years of flying this size of airframe. Even though my 74' Edge and 70" Slick are by far my best flying planes, I get more enjoyment from my smaller ones because I can relax. I think that the 51"-59" planes are the balsa sweet spot for me. EPP has the highest fun/$$$ ratio by far though.

A long time ago I made some cockpit templates from actual photos of a Slick cockpit (thank you Slick Aircraft Company!). 3DHS has been generous enough to host the photos for those that want to make a virtual cockpit. I just made mine out of Depron with the photos taped to it with clear packing tape. I added a wooden support for the pilot and she was good to go!

ream the hole a small amount so the pin can fit striaght in and not rubbing the fuse on the way in and it will fit better

Thanks I will have to try that.

I am glad that I am not alone. Your cockpit looks great. Where did you get your pilot? Is that one of the Hanger 9's? I would love to do the same thing but I think the Hanger 9 Pilots are a little overpriced. I thnk $20 bucks is probably the most I would ever go for something like that.

Pilot X from Extreme Flight is a good choice too. They have like 4 different sizes and three colors I think.

It's a pilot that Hobby King used to carry for a short period. They are exactly the same as the Extreme Flight ones, but were half the price. They haven't had them for a few years now though.

If you do go for one of the EF pilots, I had to sand down the sides of his shoulders to get him to fit...it's just a touch too wide. The smaller one is way too small and looks wrong IMO.

Had my maiden the other day and can't say enough good things about the 71" Slick. While the 51" has been my favorite for a while, the 71" is just in another class of awesome! It felt like I was flying the 51" on 60% slow motion setting on the sim! That is of course until I opened the throttle!! Here are a few pics taken from the re-maiden of the classic slick acquired from Diggity (Dwight), originally owned by Bivens from the first garage sale. Can't wait to get my slick back in the air. Stevet is making me a prop adapter from 8 to 10mm can't wait to try it out. Thanks Steve!
