While running the engine the spark plug wire came off one cylinder, I thought it wasn't pushed on far enough so I pushed it back on, after coming off the second time discovered that the temperature sensor wasn't allowing the plug cover to go past the hex. The plug gasket fits into a counterbore...

The headlight recess was cut free and positioned closer to the vertical plane and the adjacent corners were filled with Bondo. A 3 1/2" 1/16" thick steel disc was installed at 3 degrees down to define engine center. When it's all said and gone it will be a little closer to the full scale. I...

Work on the Cherokee has slowed to a crawl so I decided to rework the cowk for the next build. The front of the cowl is incorrect, the headlight recess is pointing down at 20 degree angle while the actual cowl is closer to flat has shown below. I saved the plug that was used to make the mold...

Ran the engine yesterday and today. The idle was unreliable and there was a flat spot all through the middle range. Swapped out the carb today for the Walbro WT962 that was on the Roto 85 FS in the Champ, if that didn't work I had planned to replace the Saito ignition with a RcExl unit. The...

I have built a test stand out of 10 gage steel plate that accepts this engine and the Roto 85. This will get mounted to a movable work stand for the next run. Sunday and Monday are forecast in lower 50's, so plan to get a run then.

    Electronic Carburetor/Roto 85 FS Install

My search for a servo that has high operating temperature was a failure so I decided to use a Savox SV1250MG servo, same servo used on the GP178 EFI engine. It's rated at 111 in-oz of torque at 8 volts, it is referred as a micro tail rotor servo, the case is smaller than the standard size Hitec...

The idle isn't where I want it yet. I have it mounted on a flimsy board so it shakes quite a bit. It's running on 15 to 1 fuel right now, after another tank I will reduce the oil to the recommended 20 to 1. There's quite a bit of smoke coming out the exhaust. The right cylinder hisses on...

Got a run on the engine today, wish I would have done so yesterday, it was 60f. Today it's 24f! The starter works great on 4S. Today I added an and switch to the logic to turn the starter off above 1200 rpm, on a warm restart it's running in a few revolutions.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

That's what I use, a plumbers torch. I use propane for small light stuff like exhaust, on heavy steel parts I use MAPP gas. The acetylene torch is too hot and destroys the flux. The 5/8 " tube below was silver brazed with a plumbers propane torch. Both the slip joints and the butt Y. I...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Are you brazing rods like from Lowes? If so you need about 1500F to braze, silver brazing filler such as Harris Safety-Silv 45 melts around 1200 f so you can reheat the joint and separate the parts. You can also use a propane torch which is easier to control the temperature and prevent...

It ends up the prop shaft is long enough to accept a full nut of an elastic stop nut without the prop washer. I bored the 10 mm hole in the prop washer to 1/2" and turned a step on the stop to fit the hole. There's no need to enlarge the prop bore as I had previously planned. I made a few...

I read over on another site that a fellow had broke a thermistor while making up plug temp sensors. I have made them in the past with success but could very easy see how one could break the thermistor while cripping to 10 mm lug terminal end. While making up the 3 watt position lights, heat...
