    Electronic Carburetor/Roto 85 FS Install

Not quite, the controller reads the pulse width from the throttle stick, separate channel from the throttle plate. The pulse width is converted into the solenoid pulse and corrected for ambient temperature and pressure. So in my case I have the throttle plate on an exponential curve and the...

    Electronic Carburetor/Roto 85 FS Install

No regulator, the carb is just like a Walbro. Basically the solenoid replaces the needle valves. There is a pump and diaphragm on the carb.

    Electronic Carburetor/Roto 85 FS Install

Have the carb mounted. Used the original heat insulator and made a new one 3/8" thick out of G10 material. Since the solenoid pulse width is set by the throttle I want accurate and repeatable throttle opening. The throttle servo is controlled via a exponential curve as normally done with...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I had those wires on my Champ and as indicate they are great. You have a bundle in wires alone!

Do you need the switch because the batteries remain in the plane?

Don't understand your comment about toggling the switch. I my last setup, the ignition power came off the balance lead on one of the flight packs through a 5 volt BEC to the optical switch near the engine. No switch.

I assume you are talking about the Smart Fly optical system, used two over the years and they work great. I take my batteries out to charge them even since a fellow flyers van caught fire in his driveway while charging the batteries inside the plane in his van. I ended up with a transmitter...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

Added the filler behind the latch. Woke up one morning last week and thought about the small brass dog bending with use since brass sheet is annealed during the silver brazing. Made a new latch out of steel. Also fitted a strike plate to the jam. The door will close without opening the...

Don't know if you are using a TechAero IBEC or not, that would eliminate the ignition switch and battery.

    Electronic Carburetor/Roto 85 FS Install

Built the electronic control for the ZAMA carb used on the Sthil M-Tronic chainsaw a few months ago. It uses a Seeeduino XAIO board and programed in Arduino. There is a GitHub site describing the project and quite a few discussions on other airplane sites. The original project involved using...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

Keeping the air in contact with the cooling fins is key. Looking at the Kolm 3 cylinder photos, there's a lot of stuff going on the intake/exhaust side of the engine. I would make three layups the shape of the cylinder and attach those to a flat plate opposite the intake and make that the high...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

There is a large heat sink on the bottom of the crankcase, this needed included in the cooling air flow so just cooling the cylinders is not an option. I do not believe cooling air over the spark plugs is a requirement. Three ZDZ engines and the original ignition on the first Roto engine had...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

I guess what I try is to have a high zone created by the prop blast and velocity pressure and a low pressure zone created normally by a lip in front the exit opening. Then force the air to travel across the cooling fins while minimizing leakage. The first photo is the Roto 85 FS installed in...

Pecking away at the door latch. The latch is 1/16" brass sheet with a 3/32" brass tube for the hinge. The latch slides in a 5/32" x 5/16" rectangular tube. Looking for a spring
