That is exactly the type of info I was hoping to get when I asked.

30cc profile from the ashes of a 70" RIP AJ Slick - Build Log

Finally after making my third set (learned a lot on the first two :p) I'm ready to sand. Word to the wise... hot wires are great for quick cutting and making wing chords etc... but really hard to use for any kind pr cut that requires precision. The steps required to make these is to put the...

    Life batteries

Im just wondering what the salient difference is between an a123 and a hobbico life since they are the same chemistry. Is there a major production process difference that makes a123 better?

30cc profile from the ashes of a 70" RIP AJ Slick - Build Log

ugh... struggling with the wing extensions... I found that freehand sanding is not a real easy way to figure it out so I ended up making some new ones that I cut the angle on with the scroll saw. I'm not happy with the way they turn out on the hot wire... I think I'm going to make another set...

    Redwing RC 30cc Elite series 76" MXS-R

I was just thinking we could make some trim pieces... not the whole job ;)

    Redwing RC 30cc Elite series 76" MXS-R

The first thoughts that come to mind for me are to add some checkers to the wing tips and replace all of the stock vinyl with stylized ones that say the same thing but look how you want them to. Of course... you have to add some 3drcf swag as well ;) I know you have a cutter... let me know if...

Anybody have a suggestion for me? I am going to need some landing gear soon for my profile slick project. I am guessing it is going to come in around 9-10 pounds and be running a 19 or 20" prop. If anyone knows how high the landing gear for a 71 slick is off the ground I would appreciate the...

71" AJ Slick Building, Flying, and Questions

The build should go about the same. The plane is pretty CG tolerant so don't worry about getting it absolutely perfect. Close is good for a maiden and then make adjustments. The major difference in the build will be regarding the new updates that made the electric and gas versions the same...

Ya, if I do a few more of these maybe I'll make some that won't require any sanding or fill ;)

30cc profile from the ashes of a 70" RIP AJ Slick - Build Log

I got the other wing root extension made this morning. It looks better than the other one. Each cut I do on the hot wire turns out better than the one before ;)

30cc profile from the ashes of a 70" RIP AJ Slick - Build Log

Ok so I decided to just bite off the foam extensions for the wings. I had thought about cutting a rib out on the scroll saw to transfer to the foam. Then I thought... why use a saw when I could just use scissors? I ended up measuring the distance between the anti rotation pins and marking...

30cc profile from the ashes of a 70" RIP AJ Slick - Build Log

I had a chance to complete some more work over the last two days. This morning I went in to work late (unassigned time) so I took the chance to cut out the fuse on the hot wire. I also ended up getting off work early :) So I got a little work done on the cowl plug. Compare these to the...

30cc profile from the ashes of a 70" RIP AJ Slick - Build Log

I purchased the wood for the stab and rudder. We might get the parts designed and cut out today. It is a little dicey though... we'll see.

30cc profile from the ashes of a 70" RIP AJ Slick - Build Log

That is a good suggestion... My reasoning for setting it up the way I did was to keep all of the build info together at the beginning for anyone who wanted to reference it in the future without having to scroll through comments to find the next build update. Maybe I'll do it both ways and...

30cc profile from the ashes of a 70" RIP AJ Slick - Build Log

I cut the tail off the 70 slick yesterday and got the horizontal stab separated. It is in great shape! After seeing how the vertical stab is constructed I'm pretty sure I'm going to build a new one. I think integrating it with this project presents a bigger challenge than making a new one.
