30cc profile from the ashes of a 70" RIP AJ Slick - Build Log

This morning I went back out to the garage and did some more work on the fuse. I did some sanding etc., and then decided it was time to go ahead and put the motor mount on the front. First checked the thrust line by squaring off of the vertical stab and running the line all the way up to the...

Ok, I had the master builder Brigg over again last night. He sacrificed another big chunk of an evening to help me on this project. He seems to be enjoying it as much as I am and we are both anticipating the maiden! Hold your excitement though... there is still a LOT of work to do before this...

Jeez... at least the fuse isn't the part that failed. Was that piece that fell off at the last second part of the broken wing? Or was that something else? Nice save by Brian :D

I'm sure we will see more about this... but geez Gary you should stop setting him up for that kind of stress ;) Next time bolt the wing on :p

I had that problem a lot with my FB slick at first. Adding the graphics helped alot. I hope it helps you see it better. That silver would pretty much disappear on a cloudy day for sure.

Brigg came over last night to help me continue this build. Our goals for the evening were to get the vertical and horizontal stabs figured out on the fuse. We didn't quite make it that far... but we did get the vertical stab done. We ended up finding a way to glue the original stab onto the...

That plane looks sick! Congrats on a successful maiden. I'm guessing it flew well as predicted by anyone who has owned anything 3dhs.

Thanks Waldo... I have been having fun for sure... cutting out parts and sanding is therapeutic somehow... I never thought I would enjoy building... but this has been fun.

Epoxy is the only way I have had decent success fixing carbon gear. CA is just too brittle.

30cc profile from the ashes of a 70" RIP AJ Slick - Build Log

I spent another short evening on the build tonight. I got the foam wing extensions sanded so they are ready to accept covering. I also got the 1/8 ply end caps cut out and got one of them sanded to perfectly match the original wing root. I ended up bolting it onto the wing with the wing bolt...

Wow its really taking ppl 45 minutes to prime that motor by hand? Might be a good idea to put some fuel in the carb and work it in a little before even mounting the thing on a plane.

Always a good day when I can get a 1/8 x 12 x 24" sheet of birch ply for $4.77 when tower wants what tower wants. I recommend trying your local Michaels or whatever craft store is close by when shopping for wood.

Thanks... my only regret is not being able to get it maidened before I start having to travel out of town for work. I'm already starting to need to put in extra hours to get rdy to leave on Sunday afternoon. I can see a Saturday in the office coming my way.
