Just glued the last pieces on the rudder, all the sub assemblies are now built. Plan to spend tomorrow at the local OTB for the Kentucky Derby then head to Myrtle Beach on Sunday morning. Hope to spend a day or two at Joe Nall on the return trip, this will be my first trip at Joe Nall.

It well could have, I'm not taking any chances. I used Stits once before and had terrible problems with the rudder and stabilizer deforming when heat stretching the fabric, I'm pretty sure I can pull the snot out of this structure. I can't remember having any problems with Sig Coverall and...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

The grandsons were late this morning so I was able to get the spruce strips on the buck this morning, there was not trouble bending the 1/8" thick strips around the buck after 8 hours in the household ammonia. Was able to glue up the strips after dinner tonight. Clear package tape is used as...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Been thinking about drilling the holes for the joiner tubes for the past few days. This is what i decided to do, bought a 2'x4' piece of 7/16" OSB at Lowes. Cut the sheet down to size so that the jig will fit on the drill press for drilling the holes. With slow cure epoxy glued the tubes and...

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

Don't recall any problems jointing the sides when I built the BUSA Super Cub, just looked through the build album any didn't take any photos of that step of the build, of course the members were square sticks not round like yours. Here's a photo of the full scale taken at the Piper museum some...

Discussion Flying Fields, How Big is Enough?

At one field we cut 200'X1000', the second field is 200'x 500', both are way too much. It takes me 2 hours nonstop on a 54" mower pulling a 48" drag behind deck to cut the 1000' long field only, then add the pit area. The field were I learned to fly many years ago was 370'x80', still only used...

The rudder to turtle deck is one area that I don't look forward to.

Spent the last couple of days been studying AN665 terminal tie rod ends and the lift strut fittings for the wing struts. Considered ordering flying wires from http://www.flying-wires.ch/flying-wires/index.html, these are some nice wires and fittings. Got to thinking about the DuBro rod ends...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

It was nine days since I last cut the grass due to rain, spent good part of the day tending to the grass, two passes. Did manage to get the joiner tubes fit onto the stab and elevator. Before the tubes are glued in place I want to have the holes drilled for the attachment bolting. Need to...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

The plans show a pull-pull arrangement housed in the rudder, I will go with that arrangement. Brought a 1/3 scale Nicopress tool from Balsa USA at Toledo this year, had used a saltwater crimping tool previously, I think the only difference is the copper couplings. Pecking away at the...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

I like to mount the cowl square to the fuselage, matter a fact I normally start by mounting the cowl to the firewall before starting to build the fuselage, what is your reasoning for having the engine in hand? Maybe I'm missing something? I can remember years ago I built an Ace 33% Extra 230...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

When you put together an ARF, the cowl is already mounted and you fit the engine to the cowl, why not the same here? I agree you will hit the rudder post a couple of times. On my builds with flat tail surfaces I always make the rudder and tail removable.

The two halves want to spring apart, the tape hold them together.

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

The stabilizer halves are jointed with 1/2" aluminum tubes as seen in the drawing. I'm building the Stabilizer over a 1/8" lite ply spine as the ailerons were built. To get the aluminum tubes onto the edges, a 1/8" lite ply shim was taped between the spruce 3/16" spruce stock, this was chucked...

    DA120 running rich?

Sounds like an oil war is brewing!!!! To be honest I've used everything under the sun and never had a problem with any engine, my string line trimmer is 24 years old and just rebuild the carb two years ago, pump gas. It gets same fuel as the planes.

Painted same color as the surrounding area, pretty sure I'm going with the standard yellow/orange Champ scheme.

I sure hope it turns out nice!!!! About ready to start building the tail parts, I have 25 family and friends visiting tomorrow for an Easter Saturday diner, Ham, Lamb, Kolbasi and Miller Lite, don't expect to do much tomorrow other than cook and take care of the honey do list.
