Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

Pulled the pant this morning. The mold half was leveled using three 1/4"-20 screws at the parting surface, this provided a drill jig to drill the 1/4" holes for the axle. I was relying on the drill depth gauge on the drill press and it is either off or I don't how to use it, went a little too...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

Had a lot of time waiting for the cement to dry while taping the aileron for the Champ so I got the mold waxed for the main gear. For mounting the main pants, the 1/4" axle goes through the side near the strut and extends all the way over to the opposite side where a 1/4" plywood plate is...

If I were covering a Cub I would definitely sew the fuselage fabric to form an envelope. What a great transition it provides between the fin and fuselage.

I'm using Stits fabric and tapes applied with Steward Systems water based products. I can work inside the house without the odor of MEK. I used Stits products on the Super Cub last fall because I could work outside or in the garage with the doors open. The Stits product is easier to use in my...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

When I went to the shelf where the fabric is stored I realized that there was not enough fabric to cover the wings! As a matter of fact there was only enough to cover the bottom of one wing. The bottom of the right wing is covered and screws installed, shrunk to 200 degrees F, just enough to...

Switching gears from the Cherokee, getting ready to put the fabric back on. Decided to sand down the bench top and put a coupple coats of polyurethane on before the festivities begin.

Completed the final two molds for this mold building season. Wil lay up the main gear pants at my leisure after wax on, wax off.

Best tool I found to remove the old fabric cement is a pin stripe removal tool ,even works on the balsa. The left aileron on the top is ready for fabric, made the lightening holes larger and replaced the 1/4" thick balsa rib sections with 1/4" x 1/8" spruce, the screws didn't work well in the...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Finished cleaning off the right wing yesterday, what a pain getting the screws out since I had filed the heads down to reduce the height when it was originally covered. The original screws were slotted, had to re-slot a few where the filing was aggressive. The new screws are button heads with...
