DA 170 gas engine forum/thread
When you're diving towards the ground your airspeed increases so the engine unloads a little and the RPMs go up. When you lift the nose to climb without increasing throttle, the airspeed goes down a bit which loads up the engine and so RPM's drop a little. A headwind or tailwind wouldn't...- Bartman

Got up early this morning and figured I might as well pull the tail together. Used gallon cans to hold the sides perpendicular with the lines on the plans as the guide. Had to travel for work yesterday and today but put in a couple of hours tonight. Started tonight by removing the fuselage from the plans and studied the section drawings to see how the two sides were supposed to pull together. Measured everything and then braced the fuselage with scrap balsa...- Bartman

at its widest point it is about 7-7/8" Keep in mind when you're thinking about an engine, it was originally flown with a .60 FSR. They even list the ailerons as optional. So if you lighten it up and throw even a 120 four stroke in it (a little less than a G-23 gasser, roughly) it's still...- Bartman

Top view is on the bench now and ready for the sides to be laid into place. The directions don't say to build it upside down but there's no other way to get that second bulkhead into place if it's rightside up! The second bulkhead is provided as a solid 1/4 plywood piece. No ABS, everything is either plywood or balsa. Wheel pants and cowl are built up balsa. I am probably going to use an old set of plastic wheel pants and order a fiberglass cowl. I never answered your question, I'll PM you.- Bartman

Wanted Wanted DA-100I or 3W-110iR2 Inline Twin
5.8 cu. in. is about 100cc. They used to fly these big planes with all sorts of smaller engines so I'd think 100cc would be ok. I was actually thinking an 85 with gear reduction would be better but the engines are already so small and light I don't think they cold handle having a gear or belt...- Bartman
