    Joe Smith quits 3DHS!

Because he has not been flying as much lately because he's been busy with the business end of the hobby... so it's a relative thing. And the vortex generators are used to keep air from separating too quickly in high alpha. This means that the wing carries lift longer into a higher AoA, and...

    Joe Smith quits 3DHS!

I think that if he is going to college, the shift in focus is bound to change, Gary. No one said he's leaving the hobby, but the focus he applied to achieve what he has as a 3D pilot has to be weighed against what it takes for success as a full time college student. So he's not leaving the...

    Joe Smith quits 3DHS!

Speculate all you want but consider life... Going to college requires focus College is expensive Sponsorship doesn't pay for college Focusing on a future career is much more important The RC industry is changing with Quique and Andrew entering a very tight market 3DHS has not been the same for...

Help With Motor Timing and Poor Throttle Response (Gecko 120HV)

I agree 100%, and there is nothing more frustrating than an ESC that can't handle timing when others can. I only two brands now and eliminated the problem using props that are recommended for the motor. If the connectors have a good solder joint, then I'd send the ESC back.

The fact that it's right after the Fragile stencil is pure irony. Also tells you that they don't give a hoot. I once heard the doorbell rings an looked outside... a cute young blonde in brown shorts was literally running back to her brown truck in full sprint. Thinking that she probably heard...

Help With Motor Timing and Poor Throttle Response (Gecko 120HV)

Yeah, that should not be a problem then. You're max Amps is no where near 125 with a 19x10 on 6S with a 400Kv. I keep wondering if the wrong, or bad, capacitors are the problem with some of these issues. Increasing the capacitance is one way to try to fix it, the other is to reduce the...

    Extreme Flight 76/83" MXS

It's a 69 inch fuse, non-tapered ailerons, and I doubt the tips come off, which means it's 75 inches with the tips So it's just one of the older MXS-R models that flies nothing like an EF plane, but they are hoping to breath new life into the revenue stream with it again. Anyone that flies EF...

Help With Motor Timing and Poor Throttle Response (Gecko 120HV)

Can I ask what size and make prop you are using, the motor, and how many cells? Commutation is all about the instant torque brushless motors produce on instant throttle up, especially in high inductance motors, like the 28 pole variety. Timing is determined by the ESC from reverse voltage...

    Extreme Flight 76/83" MXS

Here's a good example of how the measured current and the real current can be significantly different. At only 3.9 volts per cell, you could already be spiking to 120A if the prop is about 120g (?) and spinning to 8000 RPMs, which is about an 86% KvE. You may not see the RPMs, but we know the...

    Extreme Flight 76/83" MXS

The DM5335 operates on a different Kv efficiency constant with the 22 inch props, up to the 23x8. More like 86-87%. With the 23x9 and up, it's back to normal at about 82.7 to 84.5%. This means the Amps will spike up to the next plateau as soon as you go to the 24 inch prop, which you may need...

    Extreme Flight 76/83" MXS

That's actually 6 oz lighter, after the gas version has been in the air for about 12 minutes. Add a pound to the gas version at takeoff. But after 12 minutes in the air with the gas version, the electric version has been on recharge already for about 7 minutes. :) Tough decision, but...

Some will process the payment online and allow for warehouse pickups. If you're in the same state, you will pay tax regardless. Sometimes there's a special price for events, and you won't know this without being at the event. Not having to travel back with boxes if there's only a few left can...

    Extreme Flight 76/83" MXS

There is always someone from our club at just about all the big events in the southeast, and they usually have room to bring back some planes. Sometimes it's not always easy, or a direct trip home. When one club member picked up the 104 Extra for Frank, he didn't realize how big it was, or how...

    Extreme Flight 76/83" MXS

One of my good flying buddies will be coming down I-75 from Minnesota in late September and maybe he can be convinced to pick up two on the way down. I know he wants a red gas version, and I want a yellow e-version.... I hope he's reading this. :)

Build log: Redwing RC 76" MXS-R STOJANOVSKI SCHEME

I would try what I have first. If I had a 270Kv motor and 2x 4S batteries for an 8S configuration, then I would expect a 20x10 Xoar PJN to do 6510 RPMs on 3.7 volts per cell, which is about 72A and 16.5 pounds of thrust. With a 4000mAh capacity, I would expect at least 7 minutes of flight...

Build log: Redwing RC 76" MXS-R STOJANOVSKI SCHEME

Then this is fine, but the batteries are going to be a little stressed with a 20x10 on a 400 Kv. The best way to tell is the Amps and the RPMs because Watts is really not telling the power story at the prop shaft. If you are getting less than 110A and the RPMs are less than 6760, then you're...
