You may find that thicker wings -- thickness from bottom to top at the spar line -- will experience separation later as you increase the angle of attack. Since wing rock is all about one wing continuing to "fly" while the other experiences a degree of separation, and the drag that goes along...

First comes the mindset. US kit designers took this very seriously because of the competition and money. The actual design of the wing was a long R&D process and to this day, ripping off someone else wing makes you a scumbag. I've been to events where planes are housed overnight in a...

That's the way to do it. There are maybe a handful of guys I know that can build these the way they should and if I were going to compete, I would not do it myself. Bob Godfrey coined the phrase "In the Bones" and used to sell them like that too.

It's unfortunate that you can't get one of the best IMAC planes anymore. TOC was pretty much monopolized by the 40% Godfrey Extra 300, and Mark Leseberg Jr (pilot) and Tony Russo (builder and caller), along with Andrew Jesky, flew them in IMAC for years. Godfrey never "sponsored" pilots so...

When building IMAC planes, we took the canopy off, place a level on canopy frame platform, lift the tail until the level is, well, level, supported the tail to hold that attitude, then mount the incidence meter on the main wings first to make sure the incidence was correct for both wings. Then...

Yeah, the topic comes up a lot but I've yet to see any plane from any other comparable company that can sell and ship the same size plane for less. Keeping in mind that I've owned Pilot, Aeroworks, Extreme Flight, 3DHS, Great Planes, Godberg, Sig, Hangar 9, and probably few others, the only...

I never saw a Godfrey 260 so it may be something else then. The one in the pic above was the plane he won TAS with recently, then ML Jr won after that with his Dalton ML. I think there is one place to get the 300 now, and I think the guy's name is Mike and I think he lives in MI... licensing...

Yeah, it looks like he did some mods to the cowl to accelerate more air into the cowl. This is what it looks like now...

Matt, I just realized from the second video that it's Brad's buddy's Carden. As far as choices, I don't even have the room to build anymore, even if I wanted to. 240 ft from the Gulf of Mexico means no basements either. Get Tony to build one for you, if you want a Dalton, or drop in on Chris...

Great attitude to have. Don't lose it. The field size and configuration is one of the reasons why we gave up the 40% airframes too. We used to go to events at Deland and Daytona, where there is so much more length, back and forth, than we have. Crap... I did NOT need to hear that...

Things happening quick here but I did post something at the bottom of the previous page about the Carden. Another thing is that the Edge has outboard ailerons and flaps, which were programmed to work for crowing, but also in sync so Joe was able to get some 3D-size control surfaces. But his...

A few things that struck me immediately, after watching a lot of Cardens, Godfreys, and Daltons fly... First, these plane typically fly 'on the wing' a little longer than most ARFs. Since Joe loves putting planes into a powered stall maneuver, another differentiation is how the plane "flew"...

Some observations from an old guy that's been around the hobby for a while.... Take any plane you want, and fly basic with it, and don't worry about what others are flying or what's up with a guy who would rather win basic five times than compete in Sportsman. I never understood that either...

I'm looking for a new CF landing gear frame to replace the very light aluminum frame I have on a 50cc Extra kit, and I usually buy from Graph Tech. I sent them an email with specs that seem to be available in the more common Edge, MXS, Yak, Laser, straight leg configuration. I have not heard...

    Extreme Flight 76/83" MXS

Thanks... I didn't order anything yet, and I may go with the cord with the PVC covering. I'm just not sure if CA'ing the covering instead of the Kevlar is a good idea. But if I use the Secraft fittings, it really shouldn't matter (I think).

Since the stand offs are part of the engine, and the Pitts specifically related to the engine is also light, the AUW is really lighter than the DA50. Here are the size specs. The other thing I like about it is that the nose is longer, placing the engine further back in the cowl, so there's a...

Revolution engines from Canada, actually. It's rated to 5.7 HP and I believe it does every bit of it. The website also has Brison engines, but I don't like them at all. I think they sold here in the US by this website now, though. I just sent them an email to find out.

    Extreme Flight 76/83" MXS

5-6 ounces is a big savings because it's 13.34 pounds with 8 oz of fuel with the equivalent power of 300+ Watts per pound with a 23x9 CF Falcon. That's a power loading that may just put this baby over the top for me because it moves it up on my PAR list to between the 60 Laser EXP and the 3DHS...

Nice... and I like the weight too. You're about 5.6 oz lighter than I would be if our empty airframes were the same. Any specific mods you did to get it to that weight?
