FAQ I'm new to 3D... where do I start?

I have used the 8fg for 2 years now and I can honestly say I have never had an issues with it. It's one of the fastest radios on the market and is extremely popular among the heli crowd, and they are much harder on their radios than us plank pilots. Nick Maxwell, one of the top heli pilots in...

    Focus areas

While writing that post I was thinking about your flying at Tenn. :) You have a very smooth flying style and it's very impressive. I do have trouble figuring out what to do next too. During demos I am usually asking dad for suggestions on what I should do next. I have recently...

    Focus areas

I had an idea that came to mind the other day that I thought would fit into this thread pretty well. I think a major focus area should be overall presentation of your flights. There is a major difference between someone that can do a lot of different maneuvers and someone who can put a quality...

    Dual rates

Hey Shoe, I haven't owned a T-28 so I don't want to give any wrong information about the rates and expo for it. I suspect that the manual would give you a good idea about what rates and expos to use. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, I just don't want to give advice on something I don't have...

FAQ I'm new to 3D... where do I start?

The Dx6i is a very slow radio so be careful with that one for learning 3d. Also, Airtronics makes one of the fastest radios on the market. I personally prefer the Futaba 8FG. The 8fg is 14 channels so you can fly anything from a foamy to a 60% + size plane.

    Snap rate?

For Snaps, run 30 for ailerons, 17 for elevator (for the pitch break), 20 for rudder. These numbers are different for every airplane but should give you some thing to start with.

    Expo

The best thing to do is try a bunch of different expos until you find one that you are more comfortable with than the rest, and then you will just have to get use to that. I always tell people not to go over about 70 or so. I am usually around 60-65%; it is just what I have become comfortable...

joe do you use a smooth throttle stick or a rachet style?

Hey Frank, I tighten the stock springs as much as possible. I tried a radio this past weekend with upgraded springs that were much tighter and I didn't like them at all. I will be sticking with stock springs.

    RealFlight planes?

To be honest, I haven't done much tweaking with planes in realflight. I fly the sbach and I basically increased the throws and expo. It doesn't fly very well, but I find that challenging which I think keeps me on my toes more when I am flying it. When I began learning 3d I bought a bigger epp...

    71" Slick

My rudder servo was located in the pull pull spot. I think I had around an 8oz. tank in it. Are you having trouble with balance? Joe
  16. F

    Dual rates

The lower rate is usually around 35-45% expo and high rate is usually around 60-65% expo. I am constantly tweaking the expos to get the rates to feel the same around center though. You shouldn't be able to tell what rate you are in by just flying around the pattern.
  17. F

    Dual rates

I setup a snap rate that basically gives me the perfect amount of rudder, aileron, and elevator for a snap roll. Of course a snap is different in every orientation (vertical, 45 upline, ect...).
