I started building this plane one year ago and what I thought was going to be a 6 month project and turned into a little more than a year. I am at the end of the construction plans and only have to paint and finish and should have completely finished sometime in September. Project got slowed...

Worked a little more and got the gear pods glassed in with two coats of epoxy and all the servo hatches cut out and fitted and the arelon hinge slots cut. I think I did a good job fabricating the gear pods because the kit had two left pods. but think I ended up with something better.

I did the same and backed the standoffs for the RCV engine with an aluminum plate instead of blind nuts.

After much thought and looking at the aluminum fairings I really didn't like them and didn't think they looked authentic so did away with them today and planked the landing gear in and will smooth and fill to look authentic and will add other features with filler The only downside is I wont be...

I got the gear fairings roughed in and will fill and clear them up later this week. see when I was a kid and bought a kit and all there was in it was three blocks of balsa was a good learning experience. I used a small 4 oz coke can for the aluminum.

Started work again and ran into a snag with the landing gear pods. The used the crapy plastic stuff like the cowling and put in two right sides so instead of trying to get a left side I'm just going to fabricate a pair out of balsa and aluminum which I think will work better anyway.

I'm going with light grey on the underside and camo with Olive drab camouflage. and cleared over the the plane after decals applied. I'm also doing to do detail work around the nose and add some detail to the whole plane with brush and airbrush. before clearing. :flyer:

I'm going to put in a remote glow plug and run a glow igniter to forestall the problems you mention. I just think it is a shame to mess up the nose of a P-40 with the head of an engine sticking through the side of it.

If you use an OS and mount it sideways you will have to modify the front top cowling to allow for the motor to extend out of the side of the plane. I mounted the RCV at a 45 degree angle so I could get both the carb. and the exhaust inside the cowling of the front of the plane. see photos of...

Hi I have a Futaba 9CA and am switching from 72 to 2.1 GHZ. I ordered a FrSky DFT 2.4 module for my radio. How did you like it in your 8fu and were there any problems?
