IMAC JTEC/ Radiowave 3.1m competition series

Well, I need to put the cowl, rudder and wing on tomorrow to mark where the colors start and end and where the stripes go, I get one in that condition. 

The trim solvent is a magic bottle,  you know those annoying corners that the iron leaves behind when you melt an edge or corner,  cloth  with trim solvent melts thise down to a perfect seam and erases the melt marks where color bleeds off from iron also. Leaves clean sealed and perfect seams, found to use very thin application coat on surface before laying trim, it over  activates the glue and gets into the color layer of Monokote if too heavy handed, use a white cloth not cotton ball to control amount, recommended doing a few waste tests on scraps before using to get it perfect. Theres about a 6 -10 second window to get trim lined up before it bonds forever to base layer, used it to apply a 1 1/4" stripe on  wing instead of windex method... which is awesome also, just an overnight thing, with more than exellent results.

Heres some shots of it in first mock up, looks better with cuffs and wheel pants , pilot and dash though.

The kit comes with suggested control surface sizes, you have to cut them out yourself, and  counterbalance for rudder and ailerons, I choose not to use themc the balances, for precision, but, my friend Matt has the same kit with counter balances on every surface with huge throws and he's winning intermediate in the southwest division with it like that. Flies awesome. My intention is to make this a giant pattern plane, and following the trends a'la carden pro. Wont k ow if I made the right decision till maiden day but im sure it will be everything I want it to be and more.

The sizes for the surfaces on wings and ailerons, and are cut as per instructions.I guess was the easy answerthe control throws are a few degrees shy of stock , except the rudder,, but this bird will never see 3D action ... ever.   LoL ,I save that for disposable foamies !

All the measurements we provide for the flight surfaces are based on what we use on our personal airplanes for IMAC flying.  However since it is a kit you are more then welcome to adjust them based on tendencies that you are looking for.  On Brian's airplane you will see he chose to do the rudder without the counter balance where ours are setup with the counterbalance (cough, cough, no counter balance is ugly, cough, cough ).  The other thing that we did was counter balance the aileron which was a idea from Andrew Jesky and we found it makes the starting and stopping of rolls and snaps even more precise then before.  

That is the great thing about offering kits, now every customer can personalize the airplane to them and make minor tweaks that will suit there flying style even more.  It is kind of funny when someone sends us pictures of their completed airplane that is one of the first things we do is check out what they did to personalize it.

Man the JTEC ARF's were always great, but the kits look as high quality as they come!

On my 2.7m CS Extra, I shortened the ailerons so that they stop inline with the ends of the stabs. I also reduced the elevator to about a 1/3 of the stab chord. I have a roughly scale rudder counter balance, mostly because I like how it looks. 

I am quite happy with the way it flies and did well flying it in Advanced last month in the W/C.

Staring time again,  I like to waste a full evening deciding where everything lines up .. so I can change it a hundred more times.. till I actually put the first piece on.

I keep forgetting to ask, on your canopy shell, did you recess the front edge into your canopy deck and glue it somehow?     Are you thinking of glassing it or just covering over the front edge?      At some point later this build season i'm going to get back to my 300SR and it has the same type of canopy.     I was really not sure about the best way to secure a canopy like that.      I do like how you recessed the sides and back, nice job!
