The I'm going out flying thread 2016

Our field faces East so in the morning you're looking into the sun, the flying doesn't even get good until after 1-2pm. In the summer though, from 5pm till about 8:30 is the best all year.

Made it out Saturday, it was about 70 degrees. Quite a few guys when I got there but everybody ended up leaving early for one reason or another. By 3:30 I was there by myself and ended up packing up and locking the gate. It was a shame because the weather was perfect partly cloudy, maybe a 4 mph breeze... Dang!
Company is nice but, I enjoy it a lot more when nobody is there because it gives me more time to practice :) BTW, when I go to the field I have one thing on my mind, flying :) I have friends that have some beautiful planes and never get around to flying them because they get there and talk the whole day away. I say give me the planes so they will get flown :)

I went out yesterday afternoon after finishing up work related commitments. It was about 60*, medium crosswind at my back, Blue skies and the whole place to my self to bear down and practice sequences.

First flight, geez, do I even know how to fly? Landed to refuel and found a problem with no explanation and no recourse but to pack it in. I stripped the top of the wing last night but I still don't know WTF happened. There is no wood damage, the bottom covering is untouched, and the wing is solid and stiff. Makes me nervous.

I've seen that happens when the covering is stretched too thin or if you happened to have gotten an old roll (where it gets brittle).

You could have had a small hole as well and the pressure ripped it larger.

Also, that is right where your connection is for the servo. Maybe it bounced around and cut the covering?

That's the only thing I could come up with. The solder joint on the servo wire popping it. Usually though when you get a hole or rip there is covering flapping and some ripping. This is a clean hole with ragged edges.

I'm recovering the whole top of the wing. No patches this early in the game! Replacement decal is on the way. Strangely enough I was able to peel off the old decal with no stretching or damage. I guess the air release decals are a little tougher than regular vinyl. I already had the new one on the way so I stuck the original on my trailer.

Much like you Mark. It's nice to chat with your friends, but lemme 'lone. I just wanna fly. Lol

Dang that bites Robert. Upside? You got a nice decal for the trailer. Lol. It's unfortunate this happened. I've seen it happen a couple of times with Monokoat. I have to also believe it was due to am older roll that is brittle. One of the biggest reasons I went predominantly to Ultracoat. I've not seen this..."yet... with Ultra. Last year Joe, @Flyrcjoe lost huge patches of covering off his humongous Cap. No explanation at all. Knowing Joe, he is meticulously with just about everything he does. I'm sure you're no different. I highly doubt this was a fault on your part.
