Was 3dhs email hacked

I got the exact same email from a friend of mine a few weeks ag0. Scam.

Then, I got another email from him today, inviting me to an internal all-hands global security conference call for his company... strange thing.. he works for one of the biggest credit reporting firms on the planet!

Compromised is more accurate. All he has to do is change his email password

In a "Compromised" situation, is the Compromiser able to change the password too?

Typically no.

More then likely it's your email history that has been compromised. Not 3DHS, somebodys hacked in and can see who your emailing.

Usually people that are "hacked" with that email use a very simple password, most times it's a variant of their username or email address. I had a similar situation several years ago where people were getting emails from me with a link to a Canadian site selling Viagra. That went over real big with the parents from my son't Boy Scout troop. Anyway, a friend of mine in the security business advised me to make my password just a little more complicated, and it's never happened since.

It's hard to say without seeing the email. The header info would tell the story.

either way this is embarrasing
