Rebuilding the Yak...again.

I like 'em "BIG"!
A little after midnight here in Idaho, and I am thinking it is time for beddy bye. But first, a few photos of todays progress. Not really much to say regarding progress. Other than the Yak is nearly a YAK, again.:banana-dance:
I did have however a couple of last minute items to take care of. One, the canopy hold down rest pads needed to be modified a touch. It is about the only thing I can see that needs a little refinement on this airframe. When designed, a small square lite ply doubled is glued on the inside of the outer fuse to allow the canopy hold downs to rest against. Problem as I seen it is they sit in there at the same arch as the outer fuse skin. Which means the canopy hold downs do not sit flush on them. So, I added a small piece of balsa to them then "wedge" sanded them into shape so that the hold downs have a nice flat surface to sit against.

Also, there are two small balsa backer supports for the front of the outer fuse skins that glue on the inside of the fuse sides against the cowl ring. They add extra support for the fuse sides to sit against.

I now have the firewall set in place and figured it is time to get some clothes on this behemoth Yak.

And now for the stripes....

Tomorrow I will get the right sides striped and then open up the wing pockets and get them finished up. After that, I may recover the wing and get the gear mounted. Or, I may start installing equipment. Not sure what I feel like right now, but she is getting close. Heck, Maybe I can make it for this weekend after all. LOL....

If you like, I can get some photos of my sons along with some measurements. With that, you could probably build your own right?

I have my old one is just has a little crack in it. Thanks for the offer though. I will just have to build an oven big enough to vacuum form my own.

Just a real quick update everyone. I got the right side of the fuse on the Behemoth Yak striped and the wing pockets opened up and finished off. She's looking pretty good now. I started "temporarily" placing electronics and such in the fuse. I had mentioned before how much I like the redesigned fuse over the original setup. It sure gives me a lot more options than what I had before. I will probably get the rest of the fuse wired and all components set in their perspective permanent location tomorrow. My plan is to get the big block red headed beauty mounted soon. My prop should be here tomorrow and I feel I can have this big girl ready for a "re-maiden" early to middle of next week. I will probably wait until the weekend however. I want to take time to go through everything with a fine toothed comb and run that beasty 210 a tad before I trust it in the air. I am not taking any chances with all the work I have put in to this plane lately.
