Nice job Terry. Looks and flies just like mine. Minus the stickers, oh yeah and the flying skill! Other than that, exactly the same! Thanks for sharing.

We will get more vids this weekend, I'm also going to do a quick article with short videos on "tuning the airframe". This will be related to CG, thrust line and knife edge mixing. This is a good candidate because of the scale placement of the wing is pulls to the belly on KE more than the average mid-wing layout. I had it nearly mixed out just playing but now I changed props, battery type and added a little more tri-stock to the firewall so I'll be starting over.

I will start a new thread for that, but will post a link here later next week. If you are one that is scared to do KE mixing in your radio you are cheating yourself, we'll show how easy it is. I've even mixed out small foamies and am amazed at the difference.

Terry,

Do you check the up and down thrust ?

We have found that little tweaks to up or down thrust also helps reduce the amount of radio mixing.

In the case of your Sukhoi. I would add a degree of up thrust since the wing sits well below the thrust line.

Same with other airframes with a lower wing.

And opposite for an airframe where the wing sits higher than the thrust line.

A wing higher, would require a touch of down.

I second that. A good knife edge mix makes life so much easier. I remind myself of that on occasion when I accidentally turn it off.

Besides I can use all the help from technology I can get.:smile-new:

Hey Brad, I have experimented but the problem I have personally with changing up and down thrust is that it is variable with throttle setting. So if you want to do a super slow high alfa KE pass and then a blazing full throttle KE pass it will act different. In the case of the Sukhoi with the lower wing I think you are 100% correct if you are going to fly it scale-like most of the time. Thrust changes (more than to make the plane basically fly well) will also change with throttle in any orientation.

That's where the beauty of the radio is, it is variable in either direction.

That would make for a good how-to to help the noobs understand what's taking place in the mix and how to implement it. I run mixing in foamies and several 48" and 58" electrics to help with really bad KE coupling issues, i.e. a pair of mixes at once, R:A, and R:E. A 48" Extra 260 balsa ARF electric took 6% R:A, and 4% R:E to tame the KE performance. But well worth doing as it makes a world of improvement in handling characteristics. So nice in fact that I didn't even bother putting the mix on a switch.

Just now getting into giant scale (EF 88" Edge) and have been flying 30~35cc size electrics for the past year. The PAU 50~60cc airframe offerings have been catching my eye of late. Thanks for doing this SU 26 thread.
