Extreme Flight Owners Thread

12s 5000 is more appropriate for a 50cc conversion I think and working with a 12s 3300 type setups will be more interesting as many people have these laying around for the 60" planes. Might have to prop down to a 21x10 or 20x10 to get the flight time. I think A60-8S is the best fit of what is out there right now.

There is always scary expensive options like this.

For the 78 mxs(when it comes out),

I'm looking at running the hacker a60-18L. It should do 3500 watts.

I'm thinking 12s 6000mah glaciers should suffice.

It should come in around 14.25-14.5 lbs(i think)

What do you guys think? Too heavy?

FYI I've heard people are having trouble with Castle ESC's for 28 pole motors.

That Q80-13S is worth every dime. The Q80 motors I had are really top shelf, but they are expensive. I'd worry about the motor diameter tho. I sized my 7M and would have to move the thrust line down to fit it under the 78's hood.

The 18L is a 149Kv motor, which means that even on 12S, you're not going to get 3500W unless you are using at least a 24x12, and the 24 may be a bit big for the 78 unless you jack up the landing gear and go with bigger wheels. I guess an electric 22 inch 3-blade may be an option, but I have no experience with them on 3D airframes.

This is Tom flying the 78 at 14 pounds even, with a 22x10 Xoar on 10S with the A60-16M, blowing 3650 Watts at 95 Amps at last year's Deland Huckfest for Wounded Warriors. Sounds like a gas engine on there, but there are other planes in the air.

The Motrolfly 4330 in 200kv wind works great with 12S 3300 batteries. Comes in about a half pound heavier than the 6S 5000 Motrolfly setups, and puts out over 3kw on an APC 20x8. It makes a 70" Velox do crazy things. :D

Yeah, that's only the new Edge HV ESCs. The Ice2 HV's work fine. Still have one the 78 with the A60-7S 28 pole, and had an HV160 with the Q80-7M. I am now buying the Jeti Mezon to couple with the 28 poles since 28 pole is one of their settings. I have one in the 74 Extra and it's great, but another very expensive component. But considering burn ups and timing issues, I'll pay the extra money for peace of mind.

Right, but that's 3000W at 8100 RPMs. The rest of the time, the 21x10 is going to produce more power and thrust on 10S. Actually, as I said earlier, a 21x10 at 6450 RPMs is producing more power and thrust than a 20x8 at 7900 RPMs. I don;t fly around at 7900 RPMs too often when flying 3D, so there is an advantage to the bigger prop. Just ask the heli guys.

So could a 4330-192 be enough for a 78mxs?

You mentioned a different DM motor?

I liked it on the Xoar 20x6 better, but the 20x8 yielded the highest wattage, albeit a bit slower to spool up. I was pulling 62-65A peak on the 20x6 prop, flgiht times were 5:30-6:00.

Gyro, I don't know that Ken can wind it any lower than 200 kv, he told me that is as low as he could get a 4330 when I ordered mine.
