48" Edge 540 Building, Flying, and Questions

48" Edge from a different perspective!

I just went through the entire thread and didn't see anything like this so I'll share. It's been getting some good reviews so far. Sorry for the bumps, a little breezy. The goal is to edit an entire compilation video from all views, inside and out. I'll be working with a friend from my club this year. New to POV filming and this is my first attempt. I found that for forward view the horizontal stab was best to give some reference lines. I tried on the wing root at the fuselage and also outboard half way but it was too disorienting (trust me, I almost puked watching it:megaroll: and I used to teach this stuff!). Hope to get forward (horizon), back (3D High Alpha reference), side (for up lines) and of course outside. Enjoy. turn the volume down, it's raw footage shot with a key fob camera. Looking for feedback so let it rip! Remember this is a first attempt.

yea buddy, looks sweet!

thanks for the advice on the SFG's also, im really dig'n them, especially in KE. should have some stuff in the mail today to make vortex generators. Im gonna try/experiment with it Joe Smith told me that he saw a difference in the buck 50 edge with sfgs and vortex gens. It will give me something to fiddle around with.

Cody put them on his EF 60" Extra and said it gave him better control authority. It's funny how we can't be satisfied (in a good way, that's how improvements are made) with really amazing airframes from 3D and EF. Gosh, I look back at my first foam AT Yak 54 a year ago and all the #$%%ing tweaking I did to that to get it to a mediocre park flyer and I wonder why I wasted my time. Good learning but I could have built two Edges in the time I "wasted" on that POC and comparing it to the Dynam foam Peaks I bought for the same $ Holy what the- probably one of the best value foam biplanes out there. But, other than TH and EPP and EDF I think I'm out of the foam game. Glad the SFGs are working out, I certainly like them. Don;t know if I'll do the VGs, I have two builds to do and looking hard for a gas 30cc (72-80"). Going to an auction tomorrow, who knows? Thanks for the comments on the video. I think it's going to be a fun project, a lot of up and down, switch camera position, duplicate flight sequence but should be entertaining in the end.

Thought I lost my edge today. Ugh. LOL Was flying out of KE spin inverted rolled to KE, wind gust bounced me and lost orientation for a sec. Landed it inverted. Thought there was going to be significant damage to the plane. Walked out to it picked it up and went whew. Landed in 18 inches of snow. The cowl all the way back to the firewall was full of snow but pulled out the air compressor blew it all out and discovered ZERO damage to the plane. Thank you to the snowstorm this weekend. LOL Went on to put another flight on it and discovered a cracked wheel on the landing gear which I think may have been from last weeks pretty hard landing bounce in the wind. Got lucky this time. LOL

Lol gyro yep normally. Today I thanked it. Plane wasn't even sitting on solid ground when I walked out to pick it up. Prop could still spin. The rc gods just have liked my flying and wanted to see a bit more. You wouldn't believe the amount of snow one of those cowls holds though. Hahaha.

So need to replace my wheels as I have a broken one. Thinking of a could different ones and just want a couple opinions.

Need to order a couple props from headsuprc so planning on snagging wheels as well. Thanks for the opinions all. Appreciate it.

I run the thin 1.86 wheels. They don't hold up to side loads much better than the stock wheels but they are $5 with shipping from Headsup and are the largest to fit in the pants. congrats on pleasing the RC Gods! We have about 2 1/2 feet up here so maybe I can try those blenders to 2 feet!

Hey Gyro, maybe we have a new contest for March- How much snow (in ounces) does the cowl of a 48" Edge hold? Wait, the engineers would get all over that one with "what's the water density of the snow, outside air temp, dew point at the time of impact, etc! never mind! :megaroll::veryshocked:

Maidened the 48" Edge yesterday, flew three packs through her. Needed a couple clicks of trim and it was spot on. Flies very nicely. :)
