Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Thank you gentlemen, just got back from Sea Isle City, NJ, trip cut a little short, my wife broke her arm in a bicycling accident, will see the ortho doctor on Monday, guessing will need surgery to get things lined up. Got a shipment from McMaster Carr that I ordered while there, 12" square...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Installed the radio and associated wiring, takes a little more time with the fabric on but it is done now. Then focused on finishing the back of the plane before installing the main gear, it is a lot easier rolling the plane around on the horses without the gear on. Lost one of the clevis pins...

One shot before returning paint area. And back to painting, had to mix 20 grams, will use about 10, most will end up on the air! I just slide two contractor bags over the fuselage like a condom!!!

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Installed the dash, the original aluminum dash panel tucked under the boot cowl and the cowl was rolled over to finish the edge, I had planned paint the dash and the boot cowl with flat black paint. The dash from SAC is a little less than 1/8" thick so I need to finish off this area with...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Thank you gentlemen. The paint masks worked great, again a learning experience. The numbers were rather easy to remove the masks, the emblem on the other hand was a little tricky. Some of the paint pulled off on the right side so I left the left side dry for two days, then rubbed out the top...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

The fuselage and right wing. There are a few bleeds that will require some work, pretty sure I can clean with rubbing compound. There's only one on the fuselage but the wing has more since are so many angle joints. All in all I'm happy. Didn't get to the left wing, the paint was drying and...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

It's always better the second time around! Thanks Mike. Put a coat of base yellow on the numbers and around the tape on the fuselage to minimize bleed through. Didn't do the Aeronca emblem or the numbers on the rubber because they are rather small and was worried about excessive buildup. They...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Did a little lathe work tonight. Going to put the first hub cap I made a while ago in the prototype bucket, this one is much better, I bought 1" long disc this time around and it worked out better because the part was held better and I learned from the mistakes made on the first one. I started...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Got a little tired of masking this morning, had two more numbers to do so I decided to assemble the tail wheel. It's all together with hex head bolts and all metal locking nuts. It's a porker but scale.

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

This took the better part of today minus a few hours watching my grandsons play soccer this afternoon. One more wing to go, then mask the fuselage and rudder.

Pulled the fine line tape off after after taking these photos, looks good not much bleed through. Ended up taking the fan out and cranking up the heat in the house to speed the drying.
