    Yippee! What the postman brought

The Amazon guy showed up today with an ER16 collet set. The sizes that arrived do not match what was advertised but that's ok I already ordered another set of collets on Ebay to complete the three missing sizes, $16 for the set, couldn't buy separate collets for less than $7 each and find the...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

I'm really loving those 3mm pinking shears. It took several hours to do the area behind the rear window with pinking tape when I originally built the plane, here it took about 30 minutes. I find I get better results if I pretreat the fabric with Ekobond glue before cutting to the line, this...

Transport Canada cancels MAAC exemption for model flying

That sounds promising for you folks up north. I hope it gets resolved quickly.

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

It is basically the OD of the collet in mm, not the tool holding capability. The ER16 will do about 3/8" max. The ER32 can hold up to 20 mm. The nice things about collet are you can clamp thin wall stuff, threaded portions, very accurate. The ER type collets have a wide range of clamping...

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

While doing the recent work on the lathe did quite a bit of drilling with the ER32 collet and have decided it is just too big for drilling smaller holes, ordered an ER16 with R8 mount for the mill., $60 on Amazon. 1/16" through 3/8" by 32nds except for 5/32"? Wonder why we left out 5/32"?

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

The trim tab on the elevator has poor geometry. A pulley is attached to the bottom of the elevator, as the elevator moves the pulley swings an arc which pulls the cable tight, the trim servo is in a sliding tray and the swing maintains tension. Additionally both cables are in the same pulley...

I gave the interior a coat of Rustoleum Stone Gray before continuing with the fabric. I plan to leave the fabric on the windows and door until the painting is complete that way I only need to mask off the windshield area. I decided to relocate some of the radio components while doing the...

    What beer ya drinking tonight?

That's making my mouth water. Out to dinner with the family last night, I had a number 20.

    Hitec HS-5955TG

I would get a new HV servo, I have found the 5955 start to buzz above 5 1/2 volts, I questioned the 6 volt rating.

Finished the carriage lock. Top photo is the free position and the bottom is locked. I used a DuBro 6-32 heavy duty rod end for the connection to the cam knob. The 6-32 end has a 4-40 size hole in the ball? Works great. Still to get a longer bolt for the thread dial and make a 1/2" spacer...

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

I only put the compound on when necessary, my quick change tool post normally resting on a solid mounting post. What lathe do you have? It's a Vevor, correct? They seem to be priced reasonable without many options, I suspect most who buy convert it to CNC so why pay for options that will be...

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

Work more on the cross slide interlock today. Built a bracket to support the bell crank, made the bell crank and interconnecting link. Just need to connect the bell crank to the cam lock and it will be functional. I decided that I want to move the cam lock handle to the 45 degree position...

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

I wanted to put the DRO on the tail stock side but it would have limited the tail stock travel to the work and access to the carriage lock. It fits under the 4" three jaw chuck without a problem as long as the jaws are not sticking out too far. I really need to be careful when the 6" four jaw...
