Scale Need advice on acceptable practices on splicing spars, etc.

if you hold a piece in the air that you were thinking of adding to the build and it doesn't float away, then it was too heavy to go on your plane! but seriously, if it isn't necessary to repair a poorly fitting or broken piece, try not to add stuff so it turns out as light as possible.

Scale Need advice on acceptable practices on splicing spars, etc.

for that to be true though, i believe no sanding is allowed, the parts have got to be cut or machined to fit, sanding loads the wood grain up and prevents full penetration by the glue.

Help! Do you recognize this clevis rod end?

I need a few more like the one in the photo, it's been in my parts bin for years? Anybody know what it is? Threaded for 4-40 rod and the pin is 4-40 also. Maybe steel? Thanks!!!

Sport Bud Nosen (!!!) 1/4 Scale Citabria Build! Woo hoo!

Hi Tony, That's a beautiful Eagle you've got there! Mine is the 1/3 scale Great Planes version. I was at a swap meet last year trying to promote our club and the guy at the table behind ours brought it in. $75, no engine, and four wing servos with an extra cowl that was brand new!!! So I...

Sport Bud Nosen (!!!) 1/4 Scale Citabria Build! Woo hoo!

The wing saddle was supposed to have two plywood rails for the center section to bolt to and when I left those off the area had a slight bow and it looked like it wasn't going to be strong enough. To fix it I added spruce rails on each side and it straightened out the wing saddles and made it a...

Sport Bud Nosen (!!!) 1/4 Scale Citabria Build! Woo hoo!

The centers all still line up pretty well from the wing LE to the tail so that's good. I got the front wing dowels in this morning and the blocks for the rear wing bolts are currently curing. I also installed a 3/4"x1/4" spruce stiffener along the wing saddle and that might have pushed the...

Sport Bud Nosen (!!!) 1/4 Scale Citabria Build! Woo hoo!

Last night we had a little event in the shop. While the epoxy was curing on the brace I put in before heading to bed, the fuselage slipped off the music stand that was holding it and did a nosedive into the floor, straight down. The front half of the fuselage held up pretty well but the built...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

try these guys https://www.rockwestcomposites.com/ and i think you can ask that the tubes you buy be checked for slop free telescoping. there are different thicknesses and types of lay-up so make sure you pick the right thing.

So I cut a slot in the bulkhead below the leading edge area and fit a piece of 1/8th inch plywood to tie the upper fuselage area into the bulkhead area. The piece fit well and was epoxied with West Epoxy which is top shelf. I cut the slot with a big old saw so it looks like it, my little pull...

i love scale construction details like that. @MattyMatt 's Pitts a couple of years ago used similar details for the engine mount I think.

Gents, It's a Clipped Wing Citabria! The Citabria is certified for acro! Maybe not that much acro! I've only got a G26 for it so it's not going to be going ballistic anyway. :)

I've cut room to double up the frame members where the loads go from the leading edge down into the fuselage sides. If I can get good epoxy bonds and solid wood to wood contact I should be good. I thought about some steel but figured some more wood would work. It passed destructive testing...

Sport Bud Nosen (!!!) 1/4 Scale Citabria Build! Woo hoo!

This has become one of those builds where I might just start posting pics again when the covering is on! A similar kit is the Sig 1/4 scale Cub which has a 1/4 plywood bulkhead that goes from the center/front of the wing all of the way down through the bottom of the fuselage so it's a really...

Wings are drying, span is 91 1/4, plans show span at just over 105". When the clamps are off I'll take more photos.

Question? What's good in cheap servos these days?

mine are still in the box, haven't worked on the plane much since before Christmas when I was doing basic rehab stuff to it.

Sport Bud Nosen (!!!) 1/4 Scale Citabria Build! Woo hoo!

Spent enough time with it today that I've got a plan even if it's not such a good one! I need to get the wing mounted to the fuselage so I can get the lift struts laid out and installed. After that I can sheet the bottom of the wing but to get to that point I've got to join the wing halves...
