    91" Extra 300-EXP ARF

Guys, just pulled the trigger on one of these bad birds. Red one on the way + a GP61. Still figuring out servos, but the Savox 1270 seems to be a good value for the speed and torque at $99 and hv capable. Not sure what to go with for the throttle, anyone have a good recommendation? Also on...

    Spektrum dx8

I'm using the same batt for the last year, with good results. The one thing that shocked me was how much power my DX8 uses. I think it's the reason some people were having transmitter probs - with the stock battery (nimh) the display gauge way overstated how much was left in it even when set...

Aztech Aeromodels Spot on Version2 Servo Arms

Sorry I wasn't trying to beat up on the product, I'm sure they are great, and I look forward to using them myself. They could be 7075, though, if they feel harder. If the 6061 version was wearing on the splines, it would not make any sense to use 6063, in my opinion. Regardless, you guys...

Aztech Aeromodels Spot on Version2 Servo Arms

ghoffman, that is interesting - that's higher than what I have seen for 6063, I've always thought it was half. Look here, I wonder which of our refs is really right: http://www.engineersedge.com/materials/aluminum-mechanical-properties.htm I usually use that site for quick checks, it's...

    Gp-61

arrgghhh... now I see it. I saved that to read when I had more time for "fun" stuff. Been doing 70-80 hr weeks, for a few months now.

What weekend sale? Damn I would have jumped on one.

    Gp-61

two things come to mind from the photos, just some suggestions: you could go up in size of the cutout around the head, is that gap too tight? The other thing is exit area, it looks like there isn't much flowing out the bottom of the cowling besides the tunnel vents - but I see all sorts of...

    72" Extra 330SC

I can totally see where electric would be much more floaty in this plane, because I was amazed at how floaty it was the first time I flew it (gas). I'm not drinkin' any electron Hatorade, please don't get me wrong there! Gas is definitely noisier and more complicated to set up - choice of...

    72" Extra 330SC

I'll be the first to admit, I have not flown a 70 electric - and I might be totally missing out, my next size down is a 51 slick and I love it but I got tired of my limited supply of batteries. I'm not sayin' electric is terrible, as I fly them, but what about the 20cc in a 70 Velox? Why...

    72" Extra 330SC

I'd have to vote with Gyro. The whole reason I went gas on this plane is because I was tired of 4 minute flights and landing before I was worn out. Plus the cost of a big electric and batts was the same as gas, and the batts are a "consumable" so I figured I'd be buying them again at some...

    72" Extra 330SC

Got it, thanks! I've got Align 610's in this plane, they whine a lot but (so far) they seem to center up well. Are you doing this velcro trick if they start hunting for center, or as the linkage gets a bit worn? Or, when do you choose to apply it? Thanks!

    72" Extra 330SC

Darn it all Gyro, now I have to ask - what's the fuzzy velcro trick? Soft mounting the servos so they don't whine as much? I gotta know!! Tell me, tell me!!!

    72" Extra 330SC

Got it, thanks! Sounds like that is the same fix from a year or so ago for the V1 wings - we just need to do so regardless of model version.

    72" Extra 330SC

wait... are V2 wings failing on the 72? aarrgghhh.... thought I was safe from that with my V2. What's our current best-fix? Thanks !

There has to be a "I hate it when the ground grabs my pants" joke in there somewhere.... :-)

Great save! what was that white piece that tore off on landing? One of the elevator halves?

    More predictable pop tops

I'd like to try this but I'm not following - do you mean upline, left stick at 11 (some left rudder) right stick at 1 (slow roll to right), then left stick to 7 and right only over a little bit to 12 ? Help..... I'm just not gettin' this...

    Prop advice in general

Just ordered 19A and 18A Xoar 3d props from Valley View. Figured it might help the low end boost to use a bonafide 3D prop! I'll let you know what happens...stay tuned!

    Prop advice in general

Thanks Joe and Gyro! I went home, grabbed some other props, and went back out after posting this. Put the 18x8 break-in prop back on and WOW it's back. That and the head temps went down by 25 degrees. It's at 275 now. I wasn't thinking about the gas engine's power loss from altitude, just...

    Prop advice in general

Hi Joe and Jim, In general, when flying at higher altitude venues, do you change the prop to a different size / pitch? The reason I'm asking, I fly at 4550' ASL, and soon will be at 5500' ASL, and I'm using a 20x6 Xoar laminated on the OS GT-33 on a 3DHS 72 Extra. It just seems to be...
