In the past I have used wax paper when I made wing tube sockets, decided to give parchment paper a try. The sockets will also be treated with peel ply and vacuum bagged, again these are deviations from previous work. The carbon fiber tube was treated with a coat of Vaseline then one wrap of...

Postman brought the new to me engine today. I'm happy! Also delivered the cf tube for the stabilator, 19 mm x 1mm. Not sure why I ordered a 3/4" x .3/32" and a 3/4" x .070" tube before but I did. This one is about 1/2 the weight. Tomorrow I can start making the tube sockets. Trying new...

    Yippee! What the postman brought

Postman been busy, brought these new contour gauges, 6" and 10" long, both have locking feature. Used them for making the cabin rear former in the Cherokee. Much nicer than the old wire version, had a few bent wires and while trying to correct the situation it fell into many pieces, pitched it...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

Fit and installed the rear cabin former today. It is 1/16" plywood lighten to almost 1/2 the original weight. This is very similiar to the rear cabin former in the Bryon Glasair. Even working through those large holes it is a pain in the behind to glass it in place. The former is in the...

I second the spray recommendation. I brushed the first coat on top of the ribs and sheeted surfaces then sprayed the first coat over the entire wing. The tapes were next followed by the final sprayed coat of Polyspray.

Put the fuselage back in the mold to epoxy the tail post in. Used 1 1/2 ounce cloth, the bottom has a small piece of 19 ounce cloth, should be straight. Finished one of the door hinge eye bolts. No prototype, first one was a success! Going to mount the top hinge and take measurements to make...

Need two servos to complete the avionics package, thought I would check out the Black Friday sale at Servo City, there's a sale but there are no Hitec D9XX servos in stock, no discount listed, $139 to $149 depending on the number. Found the D945TG in stock at Amain Hobby for $89 plus an...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

Found the engine for this plane. I responded to a post on another forum about Wendel Hostetler plans and I stated that wing joiner construction is critical, I posted a photo of the Cherokee and stated that it will use a wing tube. Another fellow asked what do I plan to power it with to which I...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

The rudder came out at 79 grams, could make it a little lighter but going to use it for this build. It work well, no soft spots , I like it. Started fitting the rudder, trimmed the fin etc.

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

One pound foam fillers were cut to shape and the thickness reduced hoping the foam follows the shape of the corrugation. Foaming Gorilla glue was use to attach the foam fillers to the skins. This was rolled on with a very light coat. The parts were placed in a vacuum bag, the glue seems to...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

I have the rudder halves laid up, once these are done there is one more stabilator skin to make and I will be out of molds. Will need to make a new mold for the tail cone and cowl once it is modified. I had a heck of a time getting the bag sealed, even used a piece of fuel tubing as a...
  19. TonyHallo

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

The third protype came out of the mold as a failure, I thought the larger vacuum pump would be able to pull the glass cloth down into the edges of the corrugations so I started with full size pieces of cloth, previous lay ups were done with strips of glass cloth cut to the width of the...
