Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

Laid out a perpendicular bisector on top of the bench with a large compass, the plane was aligned to the line and vertically plumbed. The tube supports plates were drilled together so that they are same height. A short piece of socket was laid up with carbon powder added to reduce friction...

Clear packing tape installed on the top half of the tail cone. The joint was painted with PVA after the tape was placed. Decided to go with 3 layers of 4 ounce cloth for the flange. The flange will get trimmed to 3/8" once cured. The rudder is back on with new hinges and the bearing block...

Had to break out the vacuum pump as I have no means to control the vacuum on the new pump. Looks like a winner so far, of course so did the prototype! The skin is covered with parchment paper as the Gorilla bleeds through where there are pin holes. The skin is 1 1/2 ounce glass and 5.7 carbon...

I would image since it is a motor box it is square, you are missing the floor, the top should be the same width? I would also image it tabs into the sides so the minimum length would be to last tab hole, make it longer if you like, cut it out later if necessary.

My experience is that the needle valve is the first thing to go so plan to place it as well, It is part of the kit. The carb for the photo above is a Walbro WA 58 and takes a K10-WAT kit. You can find a kit most anywhere.

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

After further review, I plan to cut the airfoil out of 1 pound expanded bead with a 1/2" 2 pound trailing edge. The weight was not sufficient to make the skins flat and the ribs are telegraphing through. This way I attach the skins under vacuum. Oh well, make another socket and set of skins...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

The stabilator skins are attached, need to work out details of the anti servo tab now. I'm sorry at this point that I didn't make the foam 2" thick on the trailing edge and even considering starting over or eliminating the anti servo tab on this build, time will tell. I need to study the tab...

Just over 1 wrap of paper. I had good success with wax paper and Vaseline. Working slowly the around the tube working the wax paper into the Vaseline, I used 1 1/2 wraps of wax paper on the previous tubes. The parchment paper comes out of socket better than the wax paper. Full vacuum 28"...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

Cut a little foam. Trimmed the leading and trialing straight and added a sheet to each, this provides a gluing area around the perimeter. Cut the top of the blanks straight and added a sheet to the top. Plan to use the top half to press the skins onto the ribs. Cut the upper airfoil and the...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

There must have been more moisture in the rudder foam than I expected. Put 2 drops of Gorilla glue in each hole that were rather oversized and the glue foam all the way out. As I was cutting the excess off and working the rudder back and forth the top hinge point broke. When the other three...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

I have the foam blanks in the stations and ready to start cutting. First cuts will be cutting the leading and trailing edges and adding foam to those areas. After the leading and trailing edges are added, the tube holes will be cut. Most of the foam at the centerline will be cut out. Out of...

Glued the rudder onto the vertical fin, Once cured the lower bearing block will need shimmed and mounted to tail post. Started laying out the stabilator on one of the foam rib wing jig boards. I built the boards in the early 90's for my first foam rib construction, a 1/3 scale Wayne Urley...

    Help! Mystery plane

I'm pretty sure the 42 came with the pointless ignition. Forgot to comment on the plane, never seen anything like it, back in the early 90's there was a foam plane called the Prime Cut that looks like your plane but was a little bigger.

The engine is a Quarda, I'm betting a 35. Does the coil have a wire on it that leads behind the fly wheel? Here is a photo of a Quarda 35 that I have, might just finish assembling it some day. Note it is the same. Looks like covering is attached to the foam, is this the case?
