Looking at a 60" class plane

Thanks, everyone, for the input. I'm a sport pilot, getting into more and more 3D. I'm currently flying a 48" EF Edge and working on harriers, pop tops, blenders and the like. I save the low and slow stuff for my TH foamie. :-)

    battery tray failure

I run dual straps on my 48" EF Edge. I just started flying it on 4s packs, and they go far enough back I don't feel secure with the single strap.

    battery tray failure

It seems to me that having the Velcro along the length of the battery distributes the load across several formers along the tray. Having just one strap would seem to focus the strain to just the contact points if the strap.

Looking at a 60" class plane

I am looking at buying something in the 60" range for 3D and general sport flying. The current contenders are: 3DHS 57" Extra 330SC 3DHS 58" Edge EF 60" Edge 540T EXP EF 64" MXS PA Katana MX I am looking for some input from folks who have flown one or more of these airframes on...

    3DHS 58" Edge 540

Very nice looking Edge there. Best of fortune on the maiden, hope she flies as well as she looks. :)

    Extreme Flight Owners Thread

Joined the EF owners club yesterday when I acquired Luv3d's 48" Edge 540t through the classifieds. I added some larger wheels, since the park I normally fly in has grass that can be a bit unkempt. Maidened yesterday on 3s, and got in a short trimming flight. Very nice, can't wait to get...

FAQ I'm new to 3D... where do I start?

Another vote here for the Twisted Hobbys 32" series, particularly the Extra Slick.

    Sbach 32"

+1 to all that - flew 7 batteries through my TH Extra Slick this morning at the park. It always leaves me grinning like a maniac. Just enough breeze this morning to do inverted elevators while flying "backward" across the field. The parkflyer guys got a big kick out of that...

    48" EPP Yak

For those who have flown both, how does theYak fly compared to the 47" extra or the 48" 540 (1.5 buck huck)? Matt

    48" EPP Yak

Moving thing forward helped with the CG. I'm still a tough behind the neutral point, but it flies nicely. Getting used to the low-speed handling, which is quite good. This thing does an amazing blender :D

    48" EPP Yak

Build is very easy. You do need longer servo extensions than the website specifies, though. I ended up with 18" extensions on rudder and elevator, as the 12" barely reaches into the canopy area. The tail on this guy is longer than on the Extra, which seems to be where the extension list was...

    48" EPP Yak

Moved a bunch of stuff forward in the fuselage, and put some bigger wheels on for the grass / sand here (Dubro 3in extra lights). Going to try it again in the morning :-)

    48" EPP Yak

Flew the Yak this morning. I have my CG back @ about 4 3/4 inches and she really felt sloppy. Clipped a pothole in the sand runway at the field and killed a prop, too. Not the most spectacular of maidens, but it sure looks nice in the air.... Going to shift things around to move some more...
