For me, it's a form of satisfaction I'd otherwise won't receive. First of all there's the challenge of putting something together PROPERLY. I say that because of the mistake I made on my last plane that ruined the airframe on the maiden flight. Secondly, the enjoyment I get when I fly my models. The 25% L-19 I have hasn't been airborne in years. The builder died and as a result I got a deal. It just needed some servos w/my rx. Each time I fire up the engine, the sound makes me happy. A re-maiden flight is set for next week w/the aid of Barbee. I'm expecting good things to happen. And thirdly, the people I meet and become friends with is something I believe all of us welcome. Am I right?
