No work in my workshop again tonight. I meet a friend at the home of a friend of ours that passed away. He left three of us a very large HO model railroad. We've been trying to get over there and work on an inventory of what's there. Tonight we inventoried freight cars. After 3 1/2 hours, and a couple hundred cars Microsoft Excel crashed and all of our work disappeared. It was backing up every 10 minutes and the file is gone.:very_angry:

If I may suggest @Jetpainter in the business I was in and the traveling I had to do all over the world I had to carry with me hundreds of drawings and contracts we always had external hard drives and always worked off them. So if the lap top got stolen, crashes or any thing else you always have your data.

As long as the external hard drive isn't in the same bag as the laptop when it's stolen...

We tried that and the file was not there. We called a friend that works in IT and she had us try all kinds of things and the file simply isn't there.

When I'm working on something like that myself I like to either save a copy to my external hard drive like Snoopy1 suggested, or do a save as to a separate location, but I wasn't the one on the laptop last night.

Sorry to see you lost your file. I have done the same. Anymore I keep a backup of the backup and on two different locations. Even an external drive is a single point of failure, but better than nothing. I remember once I had copied some files to my thumb drive and one day the little led just went dark! Uggghhh...wasn't pretty after that.

What I did in my workshop - I had to work on my generator. The thing has been running rough as can be and it has been getting bad field remarks from the flyers. I pulled the carb and blew everything out and could not find anything wrong at all. However stuck it all back together and she is purring like a kitten now which is all that matters. Gotta be able to charge my batteries at the field you know :D

Next project - I plan on building me a nice charger case soon. I have been lazy and let is slide last summer, but I bought a plastic box to modify for my 800 watt power supply to fit in.
