Man what a freakin' day yesterday. The cable for the clutch on my motorcycle broke while I was on my way to work, had to pull off to a side road and was stranded there until help arrived an hour and a half later, then I was on the phone with the dealer and Yamaha for the next several hours trying to locate the cable and figure out why a 2015 model year motorcycle would have a failure like this with only 8k on the odometer and why parts were on a 3 month backorder o_O:eek:

I finally managed to locate an aftermarket company that could make the cable for me, but I find that a bit ridiculous that OEM parts weren't available. I found it's a common issue with the bike, needless to say I was not a happy camper yesterday

I was swapping out the dual 32oz tanks for a single 50oz tank from Taildraggerrc and figured as long as I have the cowl off I may as well pull the carb off and see if there was any junk in the filter. I didn't find any junk in the filter and the carb looked good, so I thought let me check the reed seating. Typical DLE results. The reed block was bad enough that one of the reeds would only seat with pressure applied to the corner. You could actually see light between the reed and the block so, out comes the 400 grit wet/dry and about 30 minutes later I had a reed block that seats very nicely all the way around :) The reeds were nice and flat, which I would hope with only about 4 gallons through the engine. Hope to get the engine fired back up either tonight or tomorrow night to see if I can get the top end to go rich for me.

Gotta love it... Reeds can give you all kinds of headaches with 2 strokes. I remember we were troubleshooting a buddy's CR125 for a couple of hours trying to figure out why it wouldn't run right (if I remember correctly it would lean out on the top end) and did all kinds of jet swapping and testing etc.. When we finally remembered to checked the reeds (it was late), we noticed that one wasn't fully seating properly. Swapped the entire set out with some new ones and that solved the whole issue with the bike.

I'm surprised all of these DLE's run as good as they do with the condition the reed blocks are that I've seen :oblong:
