Yeah I'm kind of stumped as to what the issue could be with those servos. I'm still kind of going back and forth with him on that.

-Hitec Aurora 9X transmitter
-Hitec Optima 9 receiver
-Hitec HS-7955TG servos on ailerons and elevators, throttle
-Hitec HS-7954SH, 2 in an SWB tray on rudder
-Fromeco Relion 5200 LiIon cells for receiver (2), 2600 Relion LiIon cells for ignition (1)
-Fromeco Wolverine and Badger switches
-Fromeco DCUP MkII

I would like to update this, I am now running a pair of Maxima 9 receivers, one for each side of the airplane.

Are you splitting the plane in the middle or running opposite control surfaces on separate rx's? I run dual rx's and split the controls like RA, LE and a rudder servo on one rx and the rest on the other rx. So as long as I have one rx still working, I can at least have some sort of control over the plane :) I am sure you have thought of this as well :)

I have the left side of the airplane on the left receiver, and the right side of the airplane on the right receiver. Since I run dual rudder servos in a tray, I run one rudder servo on each receiver, so I can at least maintain some level of control in the event one receiver loses link or shuts down. Throttle servo is on one receiver.

Let me tell you about how hairy it is when a wire breaks off of your switch and kills the half of the airplane that has the throttle servo :oblong:

About like having a throttle servo quit at a very fast idle right after takeoff with no kill switch.:msn_slap:

Too fast of an idle to land and just enough to fly, with a full tank of fuel. Needless to say now I never leave the ground without a kill switch.

In this instance..... My servo was at full throttle as I was climbing up through a rolling loop :eek::eek::eek:

Somehow, I was able to reestablish power to the receiver just long enough to get the airplane on approach and kill the engine, as soon as I touched down I saw the other half of the airplane go dead again.

I wasn't so lucky. As I was idling around thinking about what I should do it started to rain. I looked down at my now wet and getting wetter new JR 11x radio and I decided I'm going to land no mater what. My buddy Tony ran down to the end of the runway to see how bad the transition between our field and the farmers bean field was, and he said it was pretty smooth. The grass runway there is about 550 feet long and I touched down with about 500 feet of it left. I rode it with down elevator trying to bleed off as much speed as I could. I considered picking the tail up farther and letting the prop hit but was afraid if it dug in the cartwheel would be bad, so I let it run off into the beans. My luck being what it is, it hit the only hole between the two fields and tore out the gear.

The moral of the story is to never fly without a kill switch.:frown:

Me personally, I don't use them. I have seen every single electronic killswitch fail out there, from the cheapies all the way up to the high end 'fail-on' style switches, and they always seem to fail right at the worst possible instance.

It's almost a catch 22 though. Risk losing control over the engine, or risk losing the airplane because the switch failed.... How would you like to lose your airplane?

Airplanes are cheap. Limbs are expensive.

I have my choke on a servo so as long as I have a rx working, I can hit the choke and kill the engine rather quickly.
