servo balancing

I'm assembling my first setup with 2 servos per aileron, EF110 Yak54 v2. (Not my first GS plane, I've done several.) Looks like at least 3 ways to do it: 1) a power expansion board with on board servo equalizers, 2) individual equalizers for each wing panel, 3) run all the servos into the receiver. I'm hoping someone would share pros and cons?

The quickest and easiest method is just to plug the servos into their own channels on the receiver and setup each servo independently. I generally will start with the inboard servo (the master) connected to the surface and the outboard servo (the slave) disconnected from the surface at the control horn. Then I setup the master at center and then match the slave to the master- make sure you get both servo control horns parallel to the hinge line using mechanical movement and sub-trim, then adjust the length of the control linkage on the master to center the surface, and the control linkage on the slave to center the ball link in the control horn.

Once your center is set, then disconnect the slave control rod from the surface horn again and match it to the master servos max end points. Generally this gets your setup very well balanced with very minimal binding, it's how I setup all of my airplanes. No real need for fancy power expanders or servo balancing boxes.

That's how I'm planing to do my new Extra 300x.

I helped a friend last year setup an airplane using a Booma RC Intellimatch IM22 servo matching system. Once you made some sense of the instructions it was easy and works great. But it's a hundred bucks.

Thanks for the video Terry. Just set up my wings using sub trim to keep parallel to hinge line. Will redo before I do final setup to make sure I am not limiting my throw in the up direction, hopefully without sub trim.

New to GSN!
I recently added a second servo to each lower wing panel of my BUSA 1/3 scale Stearman. Not wanting to change out the RX, I purchased a pair of Smart-Fly Equalizer II's. Very easy to set-up and use. I could not be happier with deciding to go this route.

With a plane this size (35%) I would definitely recommend using a power distribution unit, if for no other reason than having a redundant, back-up power supply.
I used a Smart-Fly EQ-6 Turbo in my EF 40% Extra. Yeah, it is a bit pricey but when you consider the amount of money you will have invested in your YAK, now is not the time to begin saving pennies. Just my 2 cents worth, as all the other suggestions will work as well.

Cheaper option with a Speky and Jeti may be their own redundant power distribution RXs. With the Jeti I used the built in servo balancer which is easy pretty nice to use. Has a lock to hold surface deflected while you use the balance function.

I think this still limits endpoints like subtrim

It does but programming servos allows you to use one channel on receiver. I use emcotec boards in my 40% planes with 3 servos in each wing panel. I do use 2 channels from my receiver but would be easy to use just one if I needed to.
