Got a couple more things done today. Sanded all the end caps flush with the surfaces. ALWAYS use masking tape during the initial knock-down of the edge. This keeps you from going too deep and also keeps little balls of glue from rolling under your sanding block and making a huge mess. I also assembled the servo boxes. These are light ply with birch ply mounting plates. Also I install small sections of basswood triangles under the mounting plates with medium CA. Harden these blocks with thin CA as well.

Note pics in next post that half of the servo boxes are made as "right" and half are "left". Also the inner servo boxes in the wings should be modified slightly to let the wires pass just a little easier.

I traced the outline of the servo boxes on the wings and set up for cutting the wire chase. I do this with a thin wall 5/8" dia brass tube I got from McMasters. Sharpen the outside at a very steep angle with a disk sander or something similar. Then I wrap 108 grit sandpaper around a 3/8" dowel or sharpie marker is what I normally use. Roll the tube on the edge of the table and carefully sharpen the inside of the tube. Then polish the rest of the outside of the tube with some steel wool and polishing compound.

Lasts a long time and works every time. Takes a few minutes to set up and about one minute to cut a hole. For my wings the hole is a little further forward so I cut the hole and when ready to install servos I drill another hole at an angle to meet up with this hole. I'll show that later.

I've had quite a few questions in the past on this hole drilling process. I thought I'd take a second to show exactly how quick and easy it is.

Turn your sound down unless you really want to annoy the family pets.

that just has to be the coolest looking cowl I've seen! I've seen some of your other threads and cant believe the great work you do on all the planes you build.

Well now Terry.... I guess my son and I now know how we are going to drill his holes in his stick build Aeroworks Edge. This will help him a heap. Thanks for the post.:way_to_go:

The noise that thing made about 30 seconds in sounds like one of the turbine roof vents on my shop on a windy day. One of these days....BANG....no more roof vent.;)

Sharpened brass tube has a lot of uses. They make a beautifully clean hole in balsa if used correctly. The small ones I sharpen by running an Exacto around the inside after filing the outside.
