The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Straight servo grommets don't allow for proper servo frequency modulation in the case set which can transfer irregular undulating vortexes through the brass eyelet stabilizers via mounting screws and cause airframe sinusoidal wave like motions during high-G deposits upon the servo itself...

Decided that a 3" offset arm just wasn't enough on the Edge, so I went to a 4.5" offset arm. Now just to move my rx packs behind the wing tube and I think this airplane will be dial'd :)

You can still buy it directly from Pilot. The new V4 coming out looks really sweet though.

Tried a CG change with some lighter batteries in the Edge today and found that it flies better. Going to mount my batteries behind the wing tube.

Sport The Behemoth Yak gets a Behemoth Brother/129" Pilot Yak (2)

To follow up on the current draw thing, an individual servo probably won't draw 75-150 amps (just take my word for it ;) ). A single servo plug is capable of 3 amps continuous current, and can handle upwards of 10 amps burst for a few seconds. Some people have tested some plugs to 10 amps...

Sport The Behemoth Yak gets a Behemoth Brother/129" Pilot Yak (2)

Rob, those Fromeco cells have a rated 2C continuous discharge rate. That means that the 5200's are rated at a massive........ 10.4 amps continuous discharge. Times 2 and you're at 20.8 amps continuous current capability from those LiIons. LiIon and LiPo have similar discharge rates so if you...

Got the 120 bolted back to the Yak last night. Normally you would just run the bolts through the firewall, slap some washers and locknuts on the backside and call it good. Well I've been using a different method on my last 3 airplanes where I overdrill the bolt holes in the firewall and insert...

I have to say that I have also always gotten excellent service from Joe Mitchell who ran the former ZDZ USA. Every question or concern I had he had a definitive answer for me and always gave extremely sound advice, it's just a shame that he couldn't continue on the ZDZ USA business. Hopefully...

Woohoo! The DA120 showed up today!! All shiny new and ready to roll again. Desert Aircraft once again proving why their customer support is the best on the planet, they really came through this time. I'll have a hard time justifying a different brand of engine, call me a fanboy or what you...

Sport The Behemoth Yak gets a Behemoth Brother/129" Pilot Yak (2)

It's pretty simple, more servos means more current draw. And bigger servos means bigger capacity useage. Bigger packs provide longer run time and can handle heavier loads more easily. On my 126" Extra I was flying it with 2, 2S 3200 packs, ignition and all. I used roughly 500mah per flight with...

2 new Falcon 28x9.5 propellers and a 4" carbon spinner. Just waiting on my 120 to get back from DA and parts to arrive from Pilot before I can have 2 complete 120cc airplanes again :epic:

Well I got some not so fantastic news from Desert Aircraft about my poor DA120. It needs an entire overhaul, no way around it :rolleyes::oblong::confused::(

Decided I was tired of having to run an extension cord to my van just to charge 2 receiver packs in an airplane, so I installed a DC port. What's nice is these Chevy cargo vans come setup with 2 accessory ports on the fuse block which allows you to do this kind of stuff without having to have...

Cool The I'm going out flying thread 2017

Decided to go fly at the Hemet Model Masters club yesterday, about an hour north of me. Flew with some buddies, nothing but shenanigans and good times were had. SUPA Tim Hanstine came through and let me borrow a prop while waiting for my new one to come in so I wasn't grounded- seriously, one of...

    GSN GIVE-A-WAY Hangar 9 35% Extra 300X Assembly

Someone was telling me one time that red loctite needs to be used on like materials (so steel bolts to steel threads, aluminum to aluminum, etc.) otherwise it can turn acidic and freeze the 2 different materials right to each other. I don't know how true that is but the information was passed to...
