@ChickenBalls since I am such a "noob" on this and it may help others(Yes guys I still run dual nimh's on some of my birds) what smartfly system do you suggest, recommended vendor, types of lipo's etc,. As our aussie/mexican friend in Tucson Az says "mucho gracious". :big-grin:
Pretty sure Donnie is using the same ones I use. I use the Power Expander Pro on everything I have. From my 30% Pilot Edge 540, all the way up to my 42% Hangar 9 Sukhoi. I also have one installed in the Hempel 50% Edge. I started out with just the 40% Extra 260 and figured, now with the 35% PAU, there is no reason to not use it in everything. All from Bob Ritchie at Quest Engineering. Smart-Fly all the way. If you're looking for vendors on batteries though, I will only offer what I use. Fromeco. Many are using A123's, Lipos and other sorts.

Bart I'm as new to this as you, my buying into the smartfly regs came by accident. I called @stangflyer to talk about radios, that conversation turned into more airplane talk, and how I could run lipo's on the new Sukhoi which have 6V servo's, he suggested SF. I went turbo reg simply because I found it in classifieds, I was impressed enough to buy another for the Ultimate. 2 things I like, first my rx voltage does not fluctuate at all now, where before if I was on stupid rates bang sticks, it would drop 2 or 3 tenthes( no biggie ), but now its a rock solid 6.6 no matter how I bang sticks, even on stupid rates, the other is now all my planes have same batteries. THe savings alone on batteries, will pay for regs in less than 2 seasons.

I see Rob posted, so he's reading, maybe he can chime in on suggestion, in all honesty, you probably don't need the TUrbo reg., and could get by with either the super or the sport. BTW you know my Ulti flew well for over a year on dual nihm set up,if you do stay with nihm, buy good quality packs.

The thing about the reg's is that you can step down your voltage for non HV servo use with Li-Ion or Lipo packs. If you are using Nimh 6.0 packs and non HV serovos, then no reg. is needed. If you are using HV servo's or systems, then you really don't need a regulator. Just plug 7.4's straight into the SF and let it do the work for you.
