I was just thinking I have not had a car painted in a very long time, at least not in Canada they rust away faster than you can paint them just not worth it. But if you are painting a small plane and it is costing over $1000 dollars what would a car cost just for the paint never mind all the other work.

YEP!!! That is gorgeous! :adore::adore::adore:
Question....how do you minimize the paint "lip" buildup against the tape when shooting another color? I know this is somewhat minimized with the clear, and more so when cut & buffed. But are there tricks to helping this when applying the color coats?

Thanks,
Earle
Keeping the color as thin as possible helps. You can also mask each one separately so there is no other colors under the stripe your painting, but I've seen that backfire if the masking isn't just perfect. It also adds a lot of masking. For example I painted it all white first then added each color over that as opposed to spraying each color, then masking that and only putting the white in between. If you really want the stripes to be smooth, sand and reclear. But that adds more weight and cost.

Just damn. And I thought Ultracote was expensive. :confused:
My most ridiculous thing so far this week is a grille emblem for a Toyota Rav4. There are two different types, one costs $57 and the other $422. One guess which one is on the job I'm working on.:face-palm:

Looks like a $422 dollar emblem doesn't it?

Yeah....but still had sticker shock! Primers and clear (Nason) are bad enough, buy the Chromabase colors are ridiculous.
Oh, I know the sticker shock, but the glowing colors are well worth the extra dough. I am talking in regards to doing something like a Krill or Carf line, most airframes are not worthy of such cost. I have been contemplating one of the Carf Extra 330's in primer and painting it myself. Chroma would be the only way to go for such an endeavor and to have a distinct paint scheme. After all 2K for the airframe, 2K for an engine, 2K for electronics, what's another 1.5K? right.
But with my list of to do's I'll probably never get to it.

I drive a Toyota for that kind of money it would not get replaced. I would try to think of something appropriately to put in to it’s place, just to see what the dealer would say when it came in for service.

Parts are just ridiculous now days. I did a Toyota Tacoma a few months ago that the front bumper was torn off of. There was no damage to the fenders or hood, but yet the bill was near $7500. The headlights were $1000 a piece and the grille parts were just as bad.
