It’s tougher in Alaska they say... we are looking at a new field... it’s like finding gold for us, but impending disasters with the nearby obstructions. There are no such things as an open field where I live, so the owners of this private property want to allow us to fly here. We’ve been flying off USFS land for as long as I can remember and the paperwork, permits, meetings, and $#!* that goes with it is super annoying. We got the USFS master plan last week and it will limit our only field to basically no flying. We keep getting pinched every year. That’s when these guys reached out. They used to be fliers and watched me fly last fall and it tickled them to see how far the hobby has come since the 80s
This land they have has been dredged for rock, and will eventually get back filled with stumps, to create even more open territory for us in the future and won’t be allowed to be developed because of it. As of now, one of the club members is getting his osha dozer training to be able to use their equipment for just the price of fuel... way cool! Plan is to level it, and fly. Already contacted AMA, FAA, and a tentative agreement has been developed for the club members to fly. Also there is some turf we can use from an old soccer field for free, a little tall, but might even be able to flip it over. Plus the pond will be a decent float plane pond.
The USFS has been a huge PITA to keep our flying site, and thus a very dark long tunnel for our longevity, THIS new flying site is a glimmer of hope for us and makes me overjoyed. It’s going to be a lot of work, but worth it!
Like my flying buddy always says, “At the end of the day, all I really want to do is just fly and airplane and have a little fun!”

That is going to take a lot of work to change that to a flying field. But it will take time and a lot of effort. All I can say is before you invest all that time and effort make very sure that nobody can through off the property in a couple of years.

Well got the Decathlon converted back to my 12x and ready to fly again at home. Must say while at JoeNall did see two new radios that were very interesting the new Core radio from PowerBox and the new reborn JR radio with DMSS. Both looked good and will do the job, but specifications for the Core was out of this world it is by far the best technical radio available right now, but at a price.

This looks like a nice plane and great flyer. Size is definitely big enough. Sure would make a good second plane for just a relaxed day at the field. The only problem I have is looking back at all the difficulties that @Jetpainter had with his Hanger 9 plane makes me very hesitant to even take a closer look at it.
