I have a Great Planes 33% extra 330l that i am recovering and going to use for imac. Plane was built from a kit in 2002 for IMAC and flies like it is on rails. It currently has 8411 and 8611 jr servos that are from the orginal build. They all function as they should but don't trust them due to the number of flights on them. I have new 7955 hitec servos that i can put in this plane also have 8911 jr servos in a 40% Pilot that I will be taking out. Question is would it be better to send the jr servos to get them serviced and but them back in or switch the hitec servos?

  2. The easiest thing to do would be to send in the JR servos for service. If you swap to the Hitec's you'll need all new arms. Also, depending on the length of the servo leads and you're servo extensions you might have to change up some stuff there too.

I have some 8611's to send in for service too. They're 11 years old, but work perfectly. I'm wondering what it's going to cost to see if it's worth doing.

Would be kind enough to post some pictures of the plane what engine do you have in it. Have one of those kits never opened. Still pondering to sell it or build it. I do know it is not good at 3 D but exceptionally good at IMAC.

Not a problem. Mine flies with a DA 100. If you want to sell yours let me know. I might be interested in buying a backup.

Nice looking plane. Thanks for the replying. Let me think about I have no idea what to ask for it.

No problem. I stole this one from a local guy moving. 325 airframe with servos. He built it to fly iMac and done a great job of it. I have heard of guys building with enlarged elevators and ailerons to fly 3D with them. You could easily modify plans moving hinge lines forward to make bigger surfaces.

    stangflyer I like 'em "BIG"!

Just a "FWIW".... I do like my Hitec servos, and the 7955's are awesome servos. Depending on what you run for power will determine the torque of these servos. They are designed to run 6 volt or HV. Either way. At 7.4, they are 403 oz. But as Mike stated, you would need different arms as JR does not interchange. But you knew that right? ;-) If you want to stay JR, then the 8911's would be the way to go if you run HV. The 8411's and 8611's are not HV as you know. Since you pose the question of what would be better, I would send your JR servos in for a "looksee". Depending on what the cost to have them looked at or serviced, I would look at HV options. Hence you have the Hitecs and the 8911's. You could use both, just have to get some Hitec arms. This is what I use on all my planes, even my big 129" Yak. I have purchased about 20 of these packages. The seller is awesome and is my "GO TO" for Hitec arms.

I personally like HV setups because it makes everything so easy with the least amount of failure points. Good Luck Buddy. :)

IIRC a flying buddy of mine sent in some 8611s for repair and they said they could no longer repair them and only offered an upgrade. I could be wrong though. He ended up replacing them with Savox 1270TGs. Excellent, fast and strong servos.

That's what I was worried about Robotech. Hitec will no longer service 5955 servos.

Stangflyer I run fromeco batteries through emcotec boards. They are capable of high voltage but I always set them at 6v though. I think everything I own is capable of straight 2s lipo power just don't do it on any things. No reason other than 6v works and that is what I have always used.
