IMAC new to me dalton 260/300, just want to fly it!!!

so as you all may be aware, i am building a dalton 300, and this is a slow process, and i am in no hurry at all. at work, i have two physician assistants who work for me, and they are both awesome. Scott helps me in surgery, and Kim sees patients in clinic on the days i am in surgery. in any event, about 3 weeks ago, Kim tells me that she has a friend whom was asking about me, or somehow, they got on topic, and Kim mentioned that i fly model airplanes. her friend went on as well as to the fact that he used to compete, and then he asked Kim if she would ask me if i would be interested in buying an airplane he used to compete. when i found out what it was, i had to see what it looked like. he told me it has been in storage for 5 years or so, and that it has some hangar rash. i was all up for seeing it. just the airframe. so off i went.



when i arrived to meet him at his storage area, i was shocked at the beauty in front of my eyes. the complete airplane, airframe, cowl, canopy, wings, wing bag, stabs, wing tube (CF), and plane wrapper. overall, in good shape.



i said....

i will take it!!!

when he was telling me about the airplane, he had built it, he states he made some modifications later on, such as converting it over to a 300 from a 260, and he placed the aileron servos in, so that the two servos are near to root, whereas before, one was near root and other was near tip. also, he asked me to pick up the wings, and i could not believe how light they are, i doubt they weigh over 1 pound each (this is without the servos). very very light. he explained the wings are cored out, and they have CF tow, especially the aileron surfaces are heavily reinforced with the tow so that they do not warp or twist.

as you can imagine, i am very very excited of putting it together. it is, like an ARF. all i need is a motor, mufflers, radio system, servos, and a fuel tank...

the race is on!!!!!

something very interesting, this airframe is about 9 inches shorter than the 300 ML i am building. i decided to order a 150L from Tony, and it arrived yesterday. I had purchased a set of large PROFLOW cans from Murry, and yesterday afternoon, i ordered the headers from Tony as well. this morning, i ordered the PSP caps and fittings for a Fiji fuel tank, and i also ordered a Jeti CB 200 receiver system with wireless switch. i will be using the futaba BLS 157 servos, and will use 1 per stab, 2 for rudder, and 2 per aileron, for a total of 8 servos for the surfaces. i plugged up the holes on the firewall where my friend had his 3W engine, using wood dowels, and i drilled out the holes as per the original on the dalton for a DA motor. once i installed the motor, i did a trial fitting of the motor and cowl, and noticed how little distance i had between the spinner and the cowl, so i have made a mount extension out of plywood. just painted it with PU gloss. but have yet to install it.



i have run into a snag....

the headers that i will receive will be about 12 or 14 inches long with a 90 mm drop.



the pro flow cans will not fit with those headers, seems like i would have to cut the headers down to like 9 1/2" to be able to make them work.



if i do this, seems like i read the engine will be only on or off with no midrange????

I don't think canisters are affected by short headers like piped are. I have the same problem with MTW 110s and the DA 170 with 14" headers! Jeff at DA said just cut the headers to fit - no problem!!

thank you Bobby. the headers come in tomorrow, and i will measure them and show pictures,we will see what it will take!! hopefully i do not have to cut much.
