Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

I worked on getting the cowl done today. I usually start with a rough cutout and then open it up from there. I also cut a hole to adjust the needles but my measurements were off due to the size of the cowling. It's about a 3/8" hole so I'm just going to put a piece of trim over it for now.

I might go ahead and just get a new cowl but there's no point until it has flown.

I also got the wheel pants and tailwheel set up and the mount for the regulator glued in. I might upgrade the servos later on but that will be something for the off season.

I advise you to check the incidences of the wing and the stab,because despite the incidence ckecking sheet that was telling that the incidences were almost perfect I found that the right stabiliser was set at +1° while the left one was at 0° needing some positive trim to make the plane fly level,maybe a little problem of QC here and there

Cool, I'll throw some meters on and check it.

I was thinking of maidening the Edge today but I wanted to give the glue time to fully cure. Plus when I went to the field, no one was there.

I started this morning by doing a rough CG check with the batteries in where I thought they would go. Once I confirmed that I was close, I glued in the mounts. I then put the right wing on to mark where it meets on the fuse. I cut a hole and installed the Fromeco Wolverine switch.

Later this afternoon, I decided to start working on the additions to the canopy. I had a few areas that I needed to fix and the covering was in the storage box that I had the canopy with the foam floor on curing. I moved it to the fuse and proceeded to get the rolls of covering out. In the process, I bumped the plane sending the canopy to the floor...

I plan on replacing it but EF is out of the part so I'm bandaging it and using but no longer going to finish it out. I'll do that when the new one comes.

Well, the EF Edge has flown. The winds were starting to pick up (I.E. 15mph+ constant) so it only has the 4.5 minutes from the maiden. I had adjusted the motor timing before I flew it and I could tell it made a difference. I need to do some more tuning on the low end and adjust the throttle curve, but I should have more confidence in the DA 60 now. I also tried something new on the maiden. I hate it when you're trying to trim an airplane and you have to hold up elevator while trying to add up trim. So I put four clicks of up in before I took off. I actually needed one click of down and three clicks of left aileron but it helped mentally knowing that I could take my thumb off of the right stick to adjust the trim.

The plane flew great and handled the wind pretty well which was also almost straight down the runway. It's nice to have a 50cc EF plane again...

Now that it's flown, it's time to start thinking about graphics and other upgrades.

While running up the motor before the flight yesterday, I noticed one of the RX battery packs was not where I put it on the tray. I cinched it down a little better just so I could get the plane up and down but I didn't like pulling down on the foam rubber that much and I was afraid of transferring vibration to the packs. So while I had the batteries out of the plane today to discharge them, I added some strips of double sided foam tape to the trays and then reinstalled the foam rubber.

One last item. I just wrapped a piece of silicon fuel tubing around the vent line to keep the header from melting it yesterday. Today I went to the hardware store and bought some of the wire clamps. I cut a small piece of plywood and glued it to the motorbox to mount the wire clamp. I just sealed the plywood with thin CA.
