The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Exactly!! Even glued and screwed together, Wood likes to warp, settle, and getting the right grain wood for the job was hard enough let alone ideal. That’s why I say just make a frame, put some thick plywood followed by some thick MDF board, and you could put a really nice trim hard wood along...

Borrowed a power plane. It helped true up the boards. Probably took a 1/4" off. Then I glued three boards together at a time, used a couple different hand planes to make it really strait, then finished it up with a orbital sander. It was a ton of work. I tell people to just get some MDF, ply...

Thanks Mike! Boy it took way too long! Over engineered by me, you can river dance on that bench if you wanted. It's 2x4's glues together, planed, supported by 4x4's and 2x6 trusses, screwed to the wall, covered in a silky combo of minwax special walnut and cherry, top is special walnut Danish...

Did some damage assessment on the slick... lots of cracks! Looked over it after strategically removing some covering, may have added some tears to my beer in the process. I think it's done. The problem is that there is no 74" edges available to replace it still!! It's so hard to get airframes...

I've used the stuff before on metal, it gave a wavy texture that was smooth and glossy. Glad it worked out!!

Looks better! Why does it seem like the finish bubbled up? It shouldn't have that much texture right? Seems like the only time that happens to me is either the nozzle was clogged up a bit, the can was cold, or not shaken up enough. As long as it created a protective finish so dirt doesn't get in...

Hammered!!! The glossy finish would be a good touch too... They make a black hammered finish that would look pretty sweet too

Cool The I'm going out flying thread 2017

Love how the slick flew, honestly don't like the scheme of the 580s, looking at the 540T orange or even the demonstrator scheme. Only hold back is the covering on the demonstrator would be hard to repair I think. It does remind me of my old Mojo though Tim is out of town till next week! And...

Well there I was goofing off above a little pond with a little drone filming me. I did a tight loop and he missed it, so I did it again... whoopsy!! I tangled with the pond and the pond won fair and square,I think I whipped the air molecules a little too thin. Belly flopped on the water, in the...

Well I wanted to go flying... attempted to tune the DA35 with no prevail.:( I failed to properly tune the engine, being fairly upset that I could not get a reliable idle or transition. I used terry's guide and DA's guide. Kinda wondering if I have something in the carb to be honest...

AJ Laser 230z 73" Build Thread

well It was facing forward, so I flipped it 180 degrees (vent hole facing aft). I can now fly knife edge without the engine bogging down... too much, still a little loss in rpm at a slower knife edge. Thinking about calling DA and seeing if they would sent me a fancy new red carb plate. or maybe...

There are some sweet fields up in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Without a doubt I am the only 3D guy at my club, only one other guy can hover so I doubt it is here! LOL

Juneau - Most military guys go to Anchorage, which is a four hour ferry boat ride to Haines and a 750 mile drive from here! LOL - no roads in or out of Juneau, only escape is boat or plane. I could use more 3D pilot buddies here!! I am the only one here frolicking the ground with my rudder!

The flip side of switching from days to nights is a 24hr period off which directly equated to more flying time!! Got 6 flights in, 5 of which were on the laser!! That means about 1.3 hours of in air time. In a 2hr window before work! Laser has excellent precision, doesn't flop around like my...

Right but I was thinking a square tube would be pretty sweet instead of the round tube Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sooooo when are you going to start making kits for sale? Also I see people using carbon tubes all the time for the fuse, you should think about and possibly try and incorporate a square carbon tube for the fuse and horizontal spar. Maybe it costs too much, dunno, just seems like a good idea to me?

So carb plate? mine is the old stamped style, the hole appears to be on the left side facing forward. Any recommendations to orientation? I was thinking aft.. but dunno. I'm guessing in a left wing down knife edge it's getting some direct airflow as of now.

    3D MOJO 65 w/20cc Build

Thanks for sharing the build!!! Glad to hear it flies nice! It's funny you talk about forcing the plane into maneuvers, I was just there with my laser, moved the CG back a bit and it solved that issue, much more tail authority for 3D. Just a thought. I feel you at least need a picture of this...

Moving the battery aft did the trick. Plane does rolling circles in high alpha with much more ease. Plane feels more of a 3D bird now! On a left wing down knife edge the engine Boggs down a bit... probably some weird airflow in the cowl. Hmm one more thing to investigate. Sent from my iPhone...
