The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I think we all agreethat baffling inside a cowl is important, lots to learn from each other. I’ve picked up the foam air inlet baffling tip somewhere down the line a few years back which helps direct air TO the cylinder inlet and not tightly AROUND the cylinder. Take a looksee at a full scale...

:agree-disagree: Only when baffled correctly ;) Most baffling I've seen is done by directing airflow to the cylinders, not directing all airflow tight around the cylinder(s) which is hard to do. Only then will the stagnant air be neutralized and a mostly uniform cooling be...

That's what I said ("it has one!") And that aircooled chainsaws and weedeaters have their own built in, it attaches to the crank. Edit: I see what you are saying though. There is a LOT more airflow with a plane in the air and this beast below which is not stagnant

Wonder if a guy can slap on a cooling fan... wait a minute it has one! LOL weed eaters, chainsaws... all run on the same principle (stationary air, with a cooling vein fan attached to the hub). I do think breaking them in on the airframe up in the sky is the best method... not the only

Towerhobbies just informed me that the Top Flight P-40E Kit has been deleted off my wishlist (been there forever!) :( one day I'll build my favorite warbird lol! ARF is still available though. Worked on my Tech-Aero 3D printed holder design some more. Workin on version 1.9 now...

Discussion The I’m going out flying thread 2018

Doing the skitter shuffle tonight while flying, I had a reaction to flick my hand, and whacked the kill switch... DOH!!! Had a very graceful 3 point landing with the laser. Tried to run the edge, and after it warms up it won’t leave idle. I kept richening the needles with no luck. Almost...

I used to have a worn out TMAXX with the 3.3, I broke it every time it went out, it sat for a while, and gave it to somebody else for a song. I've never hear of a tiger drive, sounds like it was just the ticket to make rip roaring around more fun.

It was just a little black bear. Just don’t get in the way while hanging out in their kitchen and you’ll be fine. 95% of the time they are more scared of you. That other 5%... look for cubs, and if it’s scrawny in the fall time. Brown bears are way more territorial, feel they need to prove they...

It is. Lol I believe the HS needle is restricted somehow. Flew great on the first flight. Second flight it was acting great right up to the point where it died. Now it won’t transition. Haven’t had to touch the needles on this engine much. Taking the carb off now to investigate Sent from my...

Masked off a small section. White, then remasked for red, then free handed the silver... which I did not make a very strait line on. The red was pretty darn close after three coats, the overlap red on red turned out dark. This is good enough for me and didn’t strive for perfection. Sent from...

Got ready to remaiden the edge. Fired up and purred nicley. Let it warm up for a couple minutes, opened up the throttle and went up to speed, checked transition and ... we’ll shoot it wants to die... in fact it did die. Hmm, wonder if I got something in the carb when putting together the plane...

I’ve done CA before and thought it was too brittle. Interesting idea with the TP... never thought it would be a decent filler! I ended up using some epoxy paste, we’ll see how it turns out. My Walmart is vacant here.... closed doors quite a few years ago. I have some sharpies that might do the...

I see the merit in what you’re saying, but it’s less than cosmetics for me at this point. Want to just seal it up right at this point. This is not a show plane... well up close lol!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Finished the other wing! Turned out better than I anticipated. Looked over the fuselage, found a wheel axel I had lying around to swap out the bent one. Gear looks good! Patched a couple stick holes in the Ultracote that didn’t hit any structure thank goodness. LH elevator servo support glue...

Far from perfection, but I think it will work just fine. It's my first smoker plane so letting it get dirty, and with all the little bumps, bruises, and scab patches is helping me get over the don't hurt the new plane or covering thought. LOL
