The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I've been using eBay. Lots of impostors.... make sure they are genuine zama, not comparable to, or like, Stens are very similar... but the design is a little bit different. I'll buy ones that have a picture in the bag like I had shown in the picture. ZF-2 are about $5 shipped ZF-4 are about $10...

Some of you may remember my extensive research to find the same plastic felt clunk as in the fortitude fuel tanks... I determined ZAMA made in the USA as the right brand. They supply clunks for STHL and other companies. The cheaper ones off amazon and eBay what I purslchased turned out to be...

All wise words. I've got three different bottles of blue locktite so dont worry about that, and luckily I can hand start this motor with ease. Been marking spinner locations for years... even full scale. Thanks, I'll gobble up any tip I can get! Nothing like drilling and grinding on a...

    Radio brand

Aside from brand wars, most people would say fly what feels best in your hands and delivers the capabilities, support, and price point your are willing to invest in. Spectrum debatibly offers the most support in the US, I personally dont like the feel as much as my Futaba. Jeti has a great...

Got my new falcon spinner in! To my surprise it is 16grams lighter. Thats over a 25% weight savings. 10grams are the center bolt alone. Carbon Center bolt spinner 49grams Falcon spinner 33grams. We will see how well she holds up. Surprised I had to trim for the falcon prop to fit a falcon...

I’m going out flying thread 2019

+1000 I don't like it when people feel that rules need to be added and restrictions and mandates defined with a fine tooth comb... After we talk about serious things the club president or myself (vp) will make the effort to say "At the end of the day, all I want to do is have some fun and fly a...

Yeah, that’s what I would think too. Solid epoxy doesn’t crack like that, let alone with carbon in it. The repair isn’t exactly pretty, but works. Should last a lot longer than the origional.

The laser needed some more maintenance. My canopy dowels we’re getting worn pretty thin and the receptacle was very oblong. Fabricated a plywood circle with the scroll saw, epoxied it in place, and filled in the existing hole with epoxy. Drilled out the 5mm Wood dowels, and turned a Delrin rod...

Went flying yesterday a couple small wins for me. Had a flying buddy that I’ve been encouraging to do a stick build after he has successfully completed his foamy for learning aerobatics on. First off he was hovering the plane quite well ! Second off he built another foamy just because it looked...

Discussion Flying Fields, How Big is Enough?

Depends on the wind, approach and roll out. Sounds like you have a nice approach. Guessing the rollout is the sod? I think 60X350 is ideal (if the wind direction is constant) and would get the most used out of it. Seen a lot of people flying at these massive gorgeous runways and not only do...

    X cub making progress

Funny I was just thinking about a set of his floats! I skipped over the floats in this post, because I was thinking my hollow fiberglass floats would be fine.... Mark makes fun of the EXACT ones I have from Great Planes. HA HA. So now I must buy his product LOL Are you going to bag them or just...

I’m going out flying thread 2019

Today was a sad and great day. My flying buddy passed away a few weeks ago. We had his memorial service today. A tradition was started many years ago to get together after the memorial service, put his pamphlet from the service in an airplane, and all take turns flying it. Really was great to...

    What beer ya drinking tonight?

Didn’t realize you were a fan. Ever poured it in a glass? Lost a lot of motivation today. My old flying buddy passed away a couple weeks ago. Just got back from helping his son (a flier) for the last 5-6 hours clean out his hobby supplies in his room. Ooofff that was tough. Came home and I am...

So I got the 87" chippy plans. They are Bob Nelitz 1/5 scale plans. Fun to look at, but no way I'd ever scratch build something like this with that huge bubble canopy. https://aerofred.com/details.php?image_id=94391&mode=search
