110" TIMBER Assembly Thread
Got a couple more flights on this baby yesterday. Flew better with the tank further back, stall was less violent. Still will slowly drop a wing, slow down and then begin to spiral if you don't give the stick inputs to recover. Moving the CG back was key. I am considering adding the LE devices...- AKNick

91" SkyWing ARS 300 Assembly Thread
Been scratching my head which throttle servo to use PM DS305 or Savox 1267. I’ve heard mixed feelings on every brand and shoot... I’m just going to pick one and fly it. Found a servo box in my collection, modified and painted it, added some anti-vibration tape in it, and epoxied it in place...- AKNick

Could be a factor for sure. Lots of tail draggers handle differently with large bush tires. The geometry changes in relation to the CG and the tail will be less responsive on the tail and will walk away from you. Maules have quite the short coupled tail and ground loop easy with a less...- AKNick

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread
What did I do? Not enough!!! Need more shop time!!!! One plane being built, one with a vaporized bullet connector, another with CG rearrangement shinnanigins. Plus I’ve got another with a busted cowl, and one with a busted prop. Ha ha. I guess this means I’ve been flying??- AKNick

Relocated the fuel tank back as far as it would let me. Soon realizing my batteries needed a better spot... made a balsa shelf for each battery while adding a little fuselage structure. Win win. Hopefully I’ll have time to fly it tomorrow!- AKNick

As an electric setup, My CG was about 1/2" behind the wing tube, had to add 3 oz of sticky weights in the tail and two 6S 3300-3700 lipos up front butted up against the wingtube, which gave me 4min of 3D flying.- AKNick

Looks like the motor connector plugging into the ESC vaporized. But why? The other connectors don’t show any signs of arcing. And the bullet connector was left inside the ESC receptacle. Sounds like a bad solder joint, internal resistance at 50v could get hot and vaporize that sucker.- AKNick

Well had my motor do a loud chirp today when punching out of a maneuver at low altitude. No throttle, prop windmilled. Yesterday I ended up with 1.5 Oz on the tail. 3oz today and it flies better. Tightening up the rudder springs helped a ton. Still think they are too weak. I have to really be on the rudder to prevent a ground loop, especially on landings. Moving the fuel tank under the wing tube will be my next...- AKNick

It hasn’t blown my socks off yet. My OAW is up there for sure. CG will be key, and will make or break any plane. It flies pretty well. Got some goodies from Tim at NWRC. Blue fuel dot so I can finish my fuel line routing. Then slapped a coat of polyurethane on the firewall to preserve it. Finished setting up my wing and tail linkages at neutral. Need to bust the protractor out now. Still need to set up my throttle...- AKNick
