PM Research Mini Engine Lathe Build

I sent it you in a conversation, I would image it is copywrite. I used brass bars from McMaster Carr, 1/4" x 6" and 3/8" X 6". when the angle was milled the the bars warped as the outer skin was removed. Took some time messing with them taking alternate cuts. If I knew then I would have...

PM Research Mini Engine Lathe Build

I don't know what size mine is but will hold 1/2" tool. I run my lathe at 400 rpm just about for everything, rarely do I change speeds. I would think your lathe already has a carriage lock, I just added a bolt so I didn't need to use an allen wrench.

PM Research Mini Engine Lathe Build

Steven, In regards to rigidity, two of the best mods are a solid 4 bolt tool pot holder and tapered gibs on the carriage. I did the 4 bolt tool post holder as soon as I got the lathe and just recently di the gib mod. It was shown in the August edition of the "The Home Shop Machinist" for the...

Might think about red Loctite rather than the nuts, works great.

PM Research Mini Engine Lathe Build

Nice work Steven. On these hobby lathes you will find it difficult to use form tools due to chatter, you are better off doing it off hand and filing to the final shape. At least that's has been my experience.

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

My wife tested positive for COVID before Christmas, I came down with same symptoms next day so we both missed Christmas with our family and have been in exile since then. Didn't feel very well so I can't tell you just how many movies I have watched since then. Didn't have much desire to work...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% PA-28 Cherokee Build

I received the electronic copy of the plans and reviewed. At this point I'm leading towards building the second 30%, having the molds and plugs along with commercially available cowl and wheel pants is a big plus.

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% PA-28 Cherokee Build

https://www.planeandpilotmag.com/article/1966-piper-cherokee-140/ 1/3 of 30 is 10, 10 times 12 equals 120". Close enough for me. Looking for a daily flyer not a full blown scale project. This will be covered with Monokote just like the previous two. If it is a little off nobody will care and...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% PA-28 Cherokee Build

Was doing a little web surfing last night and came across a mention of Eureka Aircraft. I remembered they had listed a large scale Cherokee on their site some time ago. I remember seeing the plane at the Toledo show many years ago, I think the photo on their web site is from the Toledo show...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Thanks but that's way too big. The channel I used is 1/8" square with a .017" wall, I think it's going to work out just fine with .040" thick windows. I have .040" polycarbonate sheet (Lexan) that I had tried to vacuum form a windshield for the Champ, this will be more scratch resistant than...
