    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

I managed two run of river sites that each had two units. They were low head units, about 11', 3 MW's each on a good day, I believe they were manufactured by Voith. They were horizontal flow through units, the wheel looked like a giant 3 bladed boat prop. Don't remember anything about the...

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

Steven, I all the power plants that I worked in, we drilled for bigger shear pins and used full sized stock! Did you order the new lathe yet?

    Epoxy preferences?

I used West Systems for a long time without any problems. With fillers it works well for structural work and without fillers for lay ups and glassing. I most recently used this thin epoxy from US Composites, it works great for lay ups with the slow hardener, gives plenty of time, this was...

    Scale BUSA Super Cub

Got the left tube finished today in between fitting an outdoor carpet on my back porch. I can now finish the internal boxing and epoxy on the cowl. Have the servos, fuel system, ignition, and exhaust resolved.

    Scale BUSA Super Cub

Here's a photo of melting the lab metal out after bending. I had to fill this bend up twice since the first bend was a little short. The 1 quart container is filled with water on a hot plate, there is excess lab metal in the bottom of the container. The metal comes in 1 pound ingots, I needed...

    Scale BUSA Super Cub

I have been purchasing supplies to make the exhaust. The scale outlet is just right of the centerline at the rear of the cowl. I plan to make the exhaust out of 5/8" KS brass tube. I bought several 12" pieces of tube, lab metal and a 5/8" tube bender. Did a test piece today, filled the tube...

Scale 112” - Taylorcraft by HeyLuc & Snoopy.

Looking at this image, it looks to me that Luc intended the area between the bumps filled and blended to the balsa section?

Your ignition will thank you! I would use some type of security strap, while the Velco may not yield, the sticky glue does.

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

Here is a temperature log of my One Design internal fuselage temperatures yesterday. This plane is built much like a current design with exposed cans inside the fuselage. The front temperature is about 2 inches above the back of the cans, the rear temperature is on the left side of the...

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

I have a similar set up in the Champ. The box on the firewall houses the carb, the ignition is mounted on the bottom side of the box with Velcro and it is retained with a piece of hook and loom. The plug wires come out the two 7/8" holes. Access is through the door. Note the firewall is...

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

Why can't you mount it behind the firewall? I don't believe I've seen operating temperatures for the Rcexl ignition but others do have restrictions. The bottom line is heat and electronics don't mix well. Since the module is in direct contact with shield it like it's not shielded at all...

Scale 112” - Taylorcraft by HeyLuc & Snoopy.

Well then let's wait and see what Luc does. I downloaded a free version of Fusion 360 to play with, will see what happens.

Scale 112” - Taylorcraft by HeyLuc & Snoopy.

I assume you are filling the areas adjacent to the openings as well? I expected to see the triangular shaped inlets just because that is what I have in the past, but if you look around you will find other as well. Very neat way to make the bowl area, I need to get into 3D printing.

    Scale BUSA Super Cub

The goal was to remain the scale control sticks and rudder petals. I think it will happen. The fuels tanks will be two 10 ounce Sullivan slant oval tanks hooked up in hopper arrangement. I plan to finish the interior as shown in the full scale photo below, painted Daytona white of course!

    Scale BUSA Super Cub

I have the throttle and choke servos mounted, have a location for the ignition module and fuel tanks while keeping the scale interior that was made some time ago. The control sticks are automated with two small servos mounted under the floor. As you know I'm too cheap to go for the $15 Miracle...

    What beer ya drinking tonight?

Doesn't sound like you got much work done with that selection? Hot here also, was power brushing 75 years of paint off wrought iron railing, gloves, goggles and respirator, my wife called me the green giant when I got done. I had my Miller light after the paint was on, if I started early it...
