The I'm going out flying thread 2016

Lol. That's nothing. Ask Uncle Bill about fishing my first flight out of a tree. I did it right! Easily 3 times higher than that Cub! Worst part was, it was Ryan's plane. :D

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Last night I worked on the Fling DLG a little bit. I got the vertical stab/rudder installed and I reinforced the tail boom in a few places using some Spiderwire and CA. Tonight it finally quit raining long enough for the ground to dry up a bit so I worked on some landscaping I started a couple...

    What beer ya drinking tonight?

Love the 2 Hearted! It may not be real strong by our standards, but it has no lack of flavor. As for me, it was a combination of Wee Heavy and Rebel Rouser tonight while I worked on some landscaping around the house.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I found a couple old build threads on the Fling DLG. They had some good tips on beefing up a couple weak points. One being the center section where the wing halves join. So today I stripped some of covering off the middle of the wing and wrapped it in a couple layers of fiberglass cloth and 30...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

A couple weeks ago Great Planes had a sale on their 60" Fling DL. I've been wanting a larger DLG ever since I picked up one of the UMX Whipits last year so I couldn't resist. It's a pretty old ARF. The manual says 2005 on the cover. I started un-boxing it last night and the covering looked...

    Covering questions

Yup. Used it on the last two planes I hinged. Robarts need lots of glue no matter the type. And you have to be careful not to push all the glue out when insert the hinge.

    Covering questions

I wouldn't worry about plugging the holes with a dowel. Just re-drill them with the correct size drill for the hinges. You don't want a super tight fit because it will push out all the glue when you insert the hinge. If you have any holes that are really oversized, plug them with balsa before...

    Covering questions

The last couple I hinged I used Loctite Go2 Glue. It has a nice pointy tip for filling the holes and plenty of working time. Before I used it I glued up a test hinge in a piece of balsa and there was no way in hell I could pull it apart without breaking the hinge or the balsa. So far so good. No...
